Hakgojae Gallery opened its doors in Seoul in 1988, and expanded to Shanghai in 2013. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Hakgojae Cheongdam opened in Gangnam, Seoul, in 2018. The gallery’s name derives from the saying, ‘to review the old to learn the new’, from the Analects of Confucius. Based on this saying, Hakgojae Gallery primarily focuses on showcasing the works of precursors who have reinterpreted traditional philosophy and spirit through the language of contemporary art.
