Honors and Undergraduate Research facilitates the application processes for numerous prestigious nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships, such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater, and Churchill Scholarships. Each of these scholarships provides an amazing opportunity for education, personal growth, and career advancement. Most prestigious scholarships, however, were created not as a mere reward for good students, but as a way to invest in the future, a way to help todayâ€™s agents of change become tomorrowâ€™s leaders. Honors and Undergraduate Research coordinates the application processes for several national fellowship and scholarship programs that recognize students in all fields of study and from all walks of life. All National Fellowships provide some degree of financial support for tuition fees, travel, and living expenses. Most scholarships fellowships are for graduate study, especially abroad. Students interested in any of these awards should begin to prepare early in their careers.

While individual scholarships seek specific qualities in their applicants, most prestigious scholarships reward academic ability and ambition, leadership potential, commitment to the betterment of society, an interdisciplinary mindset, and an entrepreneurial approach to life. Early preparation is the key to later success in National Fellowship competitions. Students who achieve distinction in National Fellowship competitions take a broad range of the most challenging courses, commit significant time to one or more public service activities, participate in independent research, hold or create significant leadership positions, develop international awareness, and establish lasting relationships with faculty. Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Provides $7,500 for sophoores or juniors pursuing research careers in math, science or engineering. Harry S. Truman Scholarship Up to $30,000 for undergraduate and graduate study leading to a career in government or public service. Juniors apply. Morris K. Udall Scholarship Provides $5,000 to sophomores or juniors pursuing environmental careers. Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships Provides complete support for two to three years of graduate study in the United Kingdom.

Churchill Scholarship Fully funds graduate study at Cambridge for math, science, or engineering. Fulbright Program for U.S. Students Provides complete support for recent graduates or graduate students to engage in a year-long research or study program or to teach English in over 150 countries.
