In Part 1, the diagnosis, we see artists as individuals who have to position themselves as professionals in a world that is undergoing changes, some of which are inherent to the art world, while others go hand in hand with broader tendencies in society. In this second segment, the perspective shifts, and we zoom in on the relations between the artists and the art organizations, which are also undergoing considerable shifts. 2.1. Context sketch Diversity of practices: challenges for the sector The ‘flexibilizing’ of artist’s trajectories in the performing arts and music corresponds with a growing diversity of working models. That diversity reveals itself both in the way in which artists organize themselves and at the level of the artistic work itself. This in turn brings significant challenges for the art organizations that want to support the artists, their artistic practices and their careers. It would be wrong to think that with this tendency towards flexible working patterns, everyone has abandoned the one model (long-term employment) for the other (the flexwork model). What is actually happening is that more and more different working models are coexisting, and evolving alongside one another. Alongside the flex workers, we still also see theatre companies, collectives and music en-
