From the day students step on campus, they have the opportunity for involvement in a broad-ranging set of activities and organizations. KU’s Engineers Without Borders has projects in Bolivia and Uganda (below). Teams for steel bridge (cover), concrete canoe (below right) and geowall frequently earn honors at regional and national competitions. Involvement provides real-world learning experiences in a relaxed, social setting.

KU is recognized worldwide as a leader in developing safer, stronger and more durable, cost-effective bridges, buildings and structures. This research takes place in KU’s worldclass Structural Testing Facility. It is equipped with a 40-foot high L-shaped strong wall capable of supporting 880,000 pounds simultaneously in two directions.

More than 90 percent of CEAE undergraduate students participate in research or internships.

KU’s concrete canoe team is a great way to learn teamwork and problem solving outside the classroom. Each year, team members design and fabricate a canoe they race at a regoinal competition. The team has advanced to nationals twice since 2014.
