2016 IX

It is our mission to provide a safe haven where at risk boys are influenced and inspired to become responsible, independent men committed to family and community.

A note from the CEO . . .

“THE LEGACY LIVES ON.” As time passes and new milestones are reached at Boys’ Haven this slogan continues to ring true. Since the last newsletter many exciting things have happened at Boys’ Haven, but none so important as the services and help that we provide to our boys. We have one young man who has graduated high school and is currently working and continuing his education at Lamar Institute of Technology. This transition is a big part of his future. In January, 2016 planning began for the 31st Annual Boys’ Haven Crawfish Festival. It will be held on May 7, 2016 at Parkdale Mall. Last year Boys’ Haven hosted one of its most successful Crawfish Festivals ever and look to repeat that feat in May. Community support for this event is tremendous demonstrating the generous heart of a caring community. April is Prevent Child Abuse Month in the state of Texas. Boys’ Haven recognizes this by hosting a Southeast Texas Foster Child and ‘Havenkeeper’ celebration. We had music, kids’ games, food and a whole lot of fun to let our children know they are appreciated. These are just a few of our accomplishments since the last publication. We continue to strive to provide the best possible services and living conditions that our boys deserve. In the near future, look for new construction to begin on the Boys’ Haven campus. We kicked off our Capital Campaign to raise funds to help pay for this construction and we are excited about the potential of building new cottages for the boys. It is an exciting time at Boys’ Haven and I offer an open invitation to anyone and everyone to drop by our campus for a tour and a conversation about our program. For 71 years Boys’ Haven has created and maintains today a legacy of helping others and providing services to those in greatest need, our children. “THE LEGACY LIVES ON”

Each year, members and volunteers from Praise Church Beaumont spend many hours giving back to those in need amongst their growing community through their annual ‘Servolution’ project. The residents, staff & board of directors at Boys’ Haven of America, Inc. want to graciously thank Praise Church for selecting us as a cause worthy of such a remarkable source of giving! Other local organizations who also benefit from ‘Servolution’ include The Hope Women’s Resource Clinic, Some Other Place, and Buckner Children’s Village. This year, volunteers from Praise joined on the Boys’ Haven campus for a full day of gardening, remodeling and painting our existing cottages, which require constant maintenance and updating, but this is where our boys call home, therefore the need for such services is great on and around our campus! Anyone interested in taking a virtual tour of one of our cottages may now do so by visiting, courtesy of REF Video Productions! Thank you again to Praise Church for selecting Boys’ Haven as the beneficiary of another wonderful ‘Servolution’!

Wearing their hearts on their rolled-up sleeves, Servolution is Praise Church’s way of mobilizing the people of their church to be serving hands in the community. A few times a year, they gather up rakes, brooms, hammers and paintbrushes, and head out into the community to paint, clean, organize and build. This event creates new opportunities for conversation and helps forge relationships with people hungry for the Word. Don’t miss out on the next one!! For more information, please visit or call (409)898-0020.

Spring 2016 Saltwater Saltwater Boys Annual Tournament The Saltwater Boys say they’re “a group of anglers just trying to make the world a better place” and that’s exactly what they are doing each year through their annual Redfish Tournament! Over the last three years, the Saltwater Boys have donated the proceeds from their annual tournament, in excess of $12,000, to Boys’ Haven of America, Inc. It’s truly groups like the Saltwater Boys who encourage and inspire our residents to become great men committed to family and community. Thank you again to the Saltwater Boys for continuing to support us in our efforts to build a brighter tomorrow for the boys of today!

Southeast Texas Easter Giving At Boys’ Haven of America, Inc., we are fortunate to be amongst an incredibly giving community, who generously give to our residents during times of need. This Easter, our boys were filled with excitement and Easter goodies thanks to our local Market Basket, MCT Credit Union and Trinity United Methodist Church. Easter baskets were designed, customized and donated to each of our residents individually, and we can’t thank you all enough for your kindness and generosity. Your continued support will allow us to continue providing services to young men in our community for another 70+ years to come!

The Golden Triangle Quilt Guild is a wonderful group whose “purpose is to develop an appreciation for the art of quilting and its history, to provide a common organization for persons who love quilts, and to educate the public on the history and artistry of quilt making.” The Quilt Guild has been a constant supporter of Boys’ Haven for many years, as they regularly make quilts for all of our residents to have for their beds!! We want to thank the Golden Triangle Quilt Guild once again for their continued support and for providing our boys with a memento that they can always carry with them through their journey!
