Grammamino is a strategic matching game that is based on the Eight (8) Parts of Speech: adjective, adverb, conjunction, interjection, preposition, pronoun, noun and verb.

Grammamino - The Language Game

DESCRIPTION Grammamino is a strategic matching game that is based on the Eight (8) Parts of Speech: adjective, adverb, conjunction, interjection, preposition, pronoun, noun and verb. It was originally conceived and designed as a classroom game to provide interest and motivation in the learning process. Field tests and surveys have indicated that it is suitable and accepted as a learning resource, where it may be used in planned classroom sessions and other assignments, or spontaneously. There are also indications of acceptance for recreational use.

There are two (2) types of cards: Base and Pole. A BASE Card shows the Part of Speech and is written in capital letters. A Pole Card gives examples of the Parts of Speech and are written in common letters. Both BASE and Pole Cards appear in two (2) forms, as either Gate or Fence Cards. A Gate Card has the same word on either end, (referred to as double in some games) and is played “across” the line, as in the illustration. A Fence Card contains a different word at each end and is played in line as shown in the illustration in Section C. Some Fence Cards have a star on one end.

There are seventy-two (72) cards, allowing for different play group sizes, as well as teams. The number of cards makes it possible for 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 12 players to be served with an equal number of cards. Every effort has been made to make the game totally user-friendly by way of the size, structure and illustration mode of the cards.

The objective of the game is to play all the cards in hand before any other player. Players may agree to play a “set” or “round” consisting of any number of games, such as six (6), ten (10), etc.

GAME PROCEDURES

1. Cards are “cut” (shuffled) by any player chosen and served one at a time clockwise in turn for each player, face down. 2. Holder of the “Hi” card leads (plays first) to start the first game. For following games of the set or round, the winning team, or player may lead with any card. 3. Game play is in clockwise direction (turns go to the left). 4. Cards must be correctly matched as shown in the illustrations. 5. A Star Card can only be matched with another Star Card. 6. A player will pause if he/she has no possible match available in hand. To pause means to make no play and

allow the next player to play. 7. Players lose one turn for incorrect play and must retake that card if the error is discovered immediately. If the error is discovered after the game has progressed there is a replay for double points. The players still misses one turn at the restart. 8. The first player to empty his/her hand wins the game. 9. If the game is locked (that is, no further match is available) from any player, the one with the lowest letter count for all cards in hand will be the winner. (Stars count as zero). 10. If there is a tie on letter count, there is a replay for double points.
