Mojari is the traditional footwear of Rajasthan, in which soft leather of cow or goat is used for upper, while the sole and heels are made by layers of thick buffalo or camel leather, which is glued and stiched together by a cotton thread. The simplest form of mojari is made out only of leather, the left and the right foot has no difference and the mojari takes shape of the wearer’s feet. Ornamentation is done with silk, metal or woolen threads. This work is called KASHIDAKARI (a persian word for needle work). The men undertake the work of making the mojari while women embellish these mojaris with embroidery.

The Gajjar family originally known Gurjar (mochi) migrated from Ballodari village located in Marwad, Rajasthan, some 90 years ago and settled in Madhupur area of Ahmedabad. Since then they have been practicing this craft and it has been passed on to generation. Name: Surajmal Gajjar
