‘CREATING NEW PLATFORMS FOR MANIP
ALTERING THE LANDSCAPE
PULATING THE EXPERIENCE OF WALKING‘
The shoes that Kristofers Reidzāns has designed are more than just practical footwear. They have been created to become extensions of the body. In Kristofers’ own words: “amplifying the body’s navigation through contemporary urban space”. With his ‘Altering the Landscape’ range, he wants the wearer to consciously perform the act of walking, to take in the feeling of being a moving element within the landscape. Made of complementing synthetic and natural materials, in close collaboration with Latvian craftsmen, the shoe has been reinvented as a platform for a new experience every step of the way.
‘CARBON HEEL’ As you walk the spring heel amortises each step creating a light relief
‘300 GRAM SOLE’ Ultra light weight sole for ease of elevation
‘VACUUM SOLE’ A custom vacuumed platform contains memory foam to create a ‘breath’ as you walk forward
THE STARTING POINT BEING PROSTHETIC LIMBS
FOOTWEAR SKETCHES Various experiments in 2D regarding different directions in sneakers, performance and casual footwear
‘GARMENTS THAT TRANSFOR
VICE VERSA With his range of double-purpose products ‘Vice Versa’, Kristofers Reidzāns has synthesised clothing archetypes and architectural shapes. His three interior pieces undergo a metamorphosis when draped around the body. A wall tapestry that improves the acoustics in a room becomes an overcoat, a gauzy curtain turns into a loose flowing shirt and a room divider can be a voluminous vest. Sculptural in scale when they function as objects in an interior, yet adaptive to the human body, they illustrate Kristofers’ exploration of the cutting edge. Don’t hide your clothes in a closet. Put them in the spotlight.
RM INTO INTERIOR OBJECTS‘
As you arrive home, the outdoor garment can be unfolded to be used as an interior object.
SHIRT A silky light weight shirt worn outdoors
A light filtering curtain that ties on a metal structure on the ceiling

TAPESTRY A sound proofing tapestry that hangs on the wall in an architectonic scale
VEST A puffa vest for the autumn months
ROOM DIVIDER As you take off the vest, it reveals flaps, you can button on a metal structure to form a room dividing wall
PROCESS IN SKETCHES
During my 5 month internship at studio WALI MOHAMMED BARRECH we worked very closely on a variety of projects, from which the main being the ‘Frameseries’ collection of Spring/Summer 2017 and the Costumes for the chant opera ‘Neo-Arctica‘ organized by the renowned Hotel Pro Forma group. My tasks within the studio included production management, Technical development, design, communications with companies and producers, design and development of samples and catalogs and location scouting. All copyrights go to ‘Studio Wali Mohammed Barrech’
As part of my internship I helped designing and developing the full collection of Frameseries 01 “The WMB FRAMESERIES is a composition of memories, templates, intentions and references materialised in the form of handbags. The purpose of the collection is to present a series of engineered objects that are not only totemic and sculptural, but equally practical and functional. FRAMESERIES OI consists of 7 handcrafted models available in 5 selected colourways. The WMB collection is subdivided in a range of shapes that are both exclusive and familiar. -Wali Mohammed Barrech
VISUALIZATIONS OF THE DESIGNS
PRODUCTION One of my tasks was to create pattern and systematic production files
Hotel Pro Forma and Latvian Radio Choir continue the award-winning collaboration in a new visual music performance. We have entered the Anthropocene, a new geological age defined by human disturbance of the eco-system to an unprecedented extent. Humanity has become a ‘natural force’ that causes rapid, violent changes to the planet Earth. This is the point of departure for the NeoArctic performance. A large and inconceivably complex subject. The performance investigates in what ways the Anthropocene can be expressed via aesthetical and musical mixed forms. NeoArctic has come into being via a long period of research and developmental work in a cooperation between artists, scientists and other competent people from international fora.

An evolving footwear concept. The shoe brand encourages their customers to bring back their old Metamorfoze footwear to the retailer in order to have them recycled. This footwear is then transported back to the factory and all-together shredded back into raw material. This shred material is casted together with rubber into the soles of the next pair. The shape of the sole always stays the same, but the materiality is in a constant process of mutation.

‘EZERA SKANAS’ COSTUMES
For two years in a row, Daniela Treija and me were commissioned to create the garments for the main acts of the surrealist music manifestation ‘Ezera Skanas’ (from Latvian “Sounds of The Lake”) Ezera Skanas is a musical, visual and metaphysical event that starts before the sunrise 5:00 AM. Events unfold on the stage in the middle of a distant lake. It is momentary in its nature, it resembles a dream. Without formal speeches, without any names and rules it remains a personal and unifying experience. People attend the event in their boats during the middle of the night. There is silence and darkness all around the lake. Then the first objects of light appear. The first sounds begin to play. Performance grows up with the rising light and culminates with the sunrise. Music and visual objects complement the natural landscape and have a stimulating nature, leaving an open space for each ones imagination. Collaboration with Anna Ansone, Aija Ūdentiņa and Līva Reidzāne

A speculative look at how synthetic biology could be implemented in the future
SYNTHESIZING THERMOREGULATION During the span of the next 80 years, Earth’s average temperature will increase. In result creating extreme weather conditions, asking for border-line adaptability. Hot and cold. Dry and humid. Through the science of Synthetic biology, a second skin will be developed, that will regulate the temperature of the body, according to its internal temperature and its surrounding environment.
SOURCES OF DNA
A yearly tradition within my family to gather for sauna sessions led me to design and make a set of tools, that would enhance our overall experience of doing so. ‘Gars’ is a name derived from Latvian and it, literally, means ‘spirit’. It stands as a reference to the ancient Latvian tribes believing that after being in the sauna, you have healed your body, but also your soul. Ceramic, Soap stone, Sponge
The Fabric is removable with the purpose of cleaning it and customising the furniture itself
ADJUSTABLE A steel structure holds together with a removable waterproof fabric forming the seating object called the chair
QUICKSILVER A gently curved glass container with a hollow floating piece of silver that cleanses the water within. Silver interrupts the bacteria cells ability to form the chemical bonds essential to its survival. These bonds produce the cell’s physical structure so when bacteria meets silver it literally falls apart.
0.1 Mouth blown glass container

As you speak, the throat moves up and down
As you widen your mouth, the lines emphasize it
All the languages in-together have the same structure, but at the same time, every language is completely different and, even, every individual speaks a different language of his or her own. With this jewelry set of four, the unnoticed movements we make while talking are given a shape. Hand-made in sterling silver and silk
As you discuss, the jaw line acts with you
As you breath out, the air transforms onto the silk skin
