THE UNIDEAL CITY- TYPOLOGICALLY UNDEFINED Kristen Van Haeren The blank canvas location that is Philemon Island enabled a new independent housing initiative to be explored. One that exists and subsists without need or influence of its surroundings. To depend and participate in the growth and development of the community enables one to become fully involved in the street, neighbourhood and life of the island. Each of the thirteen housing configurations does not exceed a three story limit, therefore enforcing life along the streets where encounters and relationships can evolve. Linking paths give a variety of options to each of the surrounding public spaces/services so that exploration and differentiation of daily paths is possible. The way in which one lives and wanders is independent, but also very susceptible to change.
