REHABILITATION AND NURSING CENTER

BROOKLYN, NY

The multi-floor renovation project was completed in February 2018. The scope of work included a full residential long term skilled nursing care floor and entrance lobby. Located off of the Coney Island Beach & Boardwalk, the surrounding elements were used as inspiration for the design intent. Differing wood tones were used throughout the two floors to reflect the boardwalk and curvilinear lines were used to reflect the waves and shore.

Guests are met with a grand entrance in the lobby, playful patterns are mixed to harmonize with pops of color. By exploring the facility’s existing layout and staffing operational processes, a solution was created to optimize the square footage while providing a more efficient reception system.

The goal for this Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy unit was to transform the existing footprint of the unit, once broken down into smaller spaces, into one large open gym. The challenge behind the scenes was accomplishing this goal while concealing all relocated HVAC ductwork. This project was completed in May 2018 and encompassed an Activities of Daily Living Suite, director’s office, therapy area, and two baths.

The space needed to be bright and airy while also being vibrant and uplifting for residents. Walking paths, clouds, and paint strokes were all used as inspiration for this actively explosive design. An organic design in the floor created a unique way finding technique based off of outdoor walking paths. The color palette was inspired by the clouds that would be visible through newly installed windows. Wall features inspired by paint strokes were included to bring excitement and motivation to the residents using the space.

MULTICARE NURSING CENTER

SMITHTOWN, NY

A 3 unit renovation for this multicare facility encompassed short term care, long term care, pediatric long term care units. All spaces were brought up to meet current ADA regulations. Lighting, appropriate use of color/contrast, and space layouts were important design components. Each unit contained nursing stations, dayrooms and other support spaces. The pediatric long term care unit required specific coordination of oxygen and ventilation operations. The goals of the units designated for adults were resident indepence and safety.

16 HEALTHCARE

Catering to children from birth to age 21, the pediatric long term care unit has a visual expression of vibrancy with sophistication. A color palette was used that is bright and modern, inspired by children's’ toys. Reconfiguration of the unit was necessary to minimize distance of necessary travel between frequently used spaces. Experiences for residents are light, bright and airy throughout the unit, spanning from resident rooms to corridor, to classroom and playground. These spaces encourage children to come together to play, and at other times learn, all the while they are healing.

Overall, the design intent for the long term and short term care units was to make the residents feel comfortable and at ease while receiving care in an easy to navigate facility. The resident rooms were intended to be a true healing space filled with “harmony and light. Serene hues of green were used with soft patterns. Adjacent support spaces and corridors are simple, making wayfinding easy without sacrificing elegance. Lively artwork was used to stimulate and engage residents.

PENDANT LIGHTING PLAN LEGEND

This HIlton Garden Inn renovation was completed in 2014. Consisting of lobby, reception, meeting area, lounge and bar project “Grow” had to meet a variety of functions. The goal was to encourage the merging of functions such having a snack, a drink, socializing, or even conducting a meeting in a less compartmentalized manner. Titled the “Pavilion” this section of the hotel had to flow organically. These spaces encouraged guests to come together and play and at other times they became a haven, allowing for quiet contemplative relaxation.

22 HOSPITALITY

Titled “Grow” the lobby itself had to create an inclusive welcome message to all guests. Much like a garden that has versatility, a vitality that uplifts and rejuvenates the spirit; the hotel lobby provided spaces that transformed to be social and vivacious or intimate and contemplative, all the while engaging the senses. The garden was a rich metaphor to provide a firm foundation for designing a lush environment, wholly sensory, freshly unique yet comfortingly familiar. To express this essence, nature inspired colors were used in all finishes as well as organic patterns that were highlighted with layers of textures. Every detail was soft and inviting from seating to the columns with ceiling mounted ripplefold drapery. As guests move from lobby reception onto lounge area they are welcomed by a garden like feature wall, hand selected collections of artwork, and warm lighting to cast a relaxing mood. The main lounge was fit with a cozy fireplace nook, dance floor, and piano bar. From architectural layout to design aesthetics, in each space guests experienced the unique interpretation of “welcome to the garden”. LOUNGE FIREPLACE NOOK

PARLOR FLOOR PLAN

When entering this family home, guests’ first line of site was the parlor and billiard room. The first impression had to be grand but tasteful. With 3 children the family was in need of entertainment space to grow into. A billiard table and custom built wet bar create an inviting space for socializing. A collection of vintage pieces from different era’s amplified the luxurious spirit of the home. Modern amenities offset the classic interior structure to complete the family estate. Inspiration for a design can be found anywhere. For this family residence it was as simple as taking a look into the past. Family heirlooms were showcased and incorporated into a traditional design, embracing the history and finding inspiration in each piece. As to not age a young couple a mix-andmatch approach was taken, incorporating various styles. The entertaining spaces were adjacent so it was an opportunity to work with different color schemes in wallcoverings and window treatments. Pops of color of were a must. The design was unified through use of the same flooring in both spaces and mixing wood tones in furnishings. Every inch was carefully thought out from trim to artwork.

COASTAL RETREAT BRICK, NJ

This 3 story summer home was designed from the ground up. Ensuring the utmost comfort and luxury was important while not sacrificing any of the amazing waterfront view. A large family needed a summer home that was open and airy but also incorporated quaint gathering spaces. With ranging age groups that would be using the home, the layout had to include a private entrance for the guest room and mudroom. This summer escape became a home away from home.

LIVING ROOM

The main design element for this home was the surroundings. Windows were placed parallel to the waterfront to make the spaces feel as if they were an extension of the outdoors. Hues of blues created a cohesive design from the outdoors in. The modern kitchen added an up-to-date, hand-crafted touch. The living room featured a new custom fireplace so the family had a place together after a day at the beach. COUNTER RENDERING

This bustling shore town of Manasquan, NJ has a lot of history. However, with changing times in society there was a need to create an inclusive environment for all age groups and many differing preferences. Aiming for rapid growth and expanding to more locations, it was necessary to “wow” the locals with this new cafe but also draw in tourists, all while creating a branded and collaborative environment that enhanced a dynamic culture. Not only one cafe was being created here, instead it was a start-up of a brand. Working closely with the client the outcome was a pleasing and engaging interior space for customers. With a high school not far down the road and family homes around the corner, the cafe aims to become a local spot to enjoy health conscious meals, socialize, and relax. SEATING VIEW RENDERING

36 COMMERCIAL

This cafe is comprised of seating areas, leaning counters, a small kitchen, as well as a self-service area. The client was interested in an industrial nautical look with fun colors and organized flow. Inspired by historical photographs and paintings of the shore, the color palette represents bright and exciting moments. One of the most important focuses of this project was the circulation through the cafe. The aim was to create a smooth transition from entering the store, to ordering, receiving your food and/or beverage and then finding a place to eat and socialize. There is a central isle that goes through the space, which has multiple functions. Not only does the separation wall assist in way-finding, ensuring that there will always be a path while moving into or through this cafe, but on the frontside is a chalkboard for children to draw and guests to sign. On the backside of the wall is bar height seating. Menus are easily visible to all guests and ADA accessible counters are provided to accommodate all who come in. Design highlights include nautical touches as well as historical items relevant to the town in which it is located. EXTERIOR FACADE
