EXCERPT The Munich all around her was bustling with activity. She could hear it from all directions. Munich was a wonderful city, a fun-loving place, the live and let live ebullience of the city emanating from its every nook and cranny. She had had a lovely stay here. All of it had been so adventurous, so new, so unlike life back home in Arizona. She could vividly recall the first time she had ventured into a Munich beer garden, where the liter mugs had been so huge that she had had to lift hers with both hands, and the giggles, from him, until he too had had to use both hands. The fumbling noises he had been making came to an abrupt halt. He began stroking her cheek again. Gus looked so happy, so young, so full of life. It was so hard to imagine that he could be so heavily involved in all this horror. Gus smiled at her once more. His eyes were soft, so gentle, so caring, so loving. Maybe this was some kind of huge mistake. Maybe he wasn't going to kill her after all. Maybe everything would turn out happily ever after. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. But then suddenly she saw it clearly. It was no fairy tale. There would be no maybe. This was real, as real as the mixture of sadness and fear that now flooded her brain. And then she died, with her eyes wide open, challenging, piercing his to the end. SPECIAL NOTE: COVERT DREAMS has recently received a Compulsion Reads endorsement. 46 of 49 people found the following review helpful 5.0 out of 5 stars Covert Dreams January 14, 2012 By christine swinson Format:Kindle Edition This is the first review I've written for Amazon. I'm a very picky reader (that's putting it mildly) and I tend to subscribe to the adage that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. I'm not sure that's the best policy in life, but it's the one I tend to go with. This book, fortunately, has given me an opportunity to speak out. This is the best book, bar none, that I've read in an eon. It grabbed me by the collar and wouldn't let me go. I read it in three sittings. The voice, the pace, the settings, the highly intriguing plot: they all grabbed me. And the great thing was there was nothing grisly or disturbing. I don't like things like that. What I got was highly intelligent writing with a very compelling plot, and no violence. Bravo. One last point: at the end of most of the chapters the author used an unusual and effective technique that really won my respect. I felt I was in the hands of a master. Terrific book. I would recommend it to anyone.

32 of 33 people found the following review helpful 5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting International Thriller December 5, 2011 By The Kindle Book Review Format:Kindle Edition I was totally captivated reading this riveting international thriller. I was bounced back and forth from the beer gardens and streets of Munich to the deserts of Saudi Arabia. This story kept me totally involved from beginning to end and all points in between. B.J. is a happily married man, a career in the advertising business and content with his life. He starts to have dreams about a woman named Dabbie who is a stranger to him and as the dreams progress and continue he discovers that he is the man in the dreams with her. When the dreams turn into nightmares they begin to threaten not only his marriage but his sanity and stability as well. Ultimately, as the dreams overpower him, he sets out for Munich to confront his demons head-on. What happens from that point on is an engagingly powerful set of circumstances that will keep you on the edge. Stan has just arrived in Saudi Arabia to start a new job and to make a new start with his wife. When his wife does not arrive as planned and there is no sign of her very existence his life is turned upside down as he is thrown into and experiences a nightmare of his own. The characters are extremely well developed and believable. Their frustrations, fears and panic as they set about on their separate journeys will grab you, fill you with compassion and haunt you as the story unfolds. I highly recommend this book to all readers who like to be totally captivated and swept away. Marilou George ~ The Kindle Book Review

December 9, 2011 By Dale Roberts Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase Covert Dreams had me from the gripping opening scene to the satisfying conclusion. This international thriller takes you on a wild ride from Munich to Saudi Arabia and deep into the minds of the major characters. It gives a disturbing look at psycholgical manipulation by the highest levels of foriegn govenments. I have never read Mr. Meyer's work before, but it was like I was reading Robert Ludlum and the Borne series.
