WEST MEMORIAL COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER

Your newsletter can now be viewed online at www.krenekprinting.com Newsletters - Katy - West Memorial

Watch Your Signs!

Please make sure you take down your signs after a garage sale or election. Posting of signs is restricted by guidelines in your homeowner’s contract. West Memorial subdivision is a family-oriented neighborhood. We should resist the posting of signs, especially if we do not respect the community property and remove them after our event. Running a business out of your home is also restricted in your homeowner’s contract. Please be sure to read it carefully and adhere to all guidelines. We want our neighborhood to be a place people want to live! More information will be made available through other articles in the newsletter and through the West Memorial website as well. If you would be interested in sharing an article or otherwise contributing to the newsletter, please send your information and the article to info@westmemorial.org or to my direct email address at Charles@westmemorial.org It is still our neighborhood and your board of directors meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 PM in the clubhouse. Please come! Bring your concerns, your questions and your celebrations! We are here to help you! If you have questions about anything in our neighborhood, you should find a resource on our website or contact Tami Martin with High Sierra Management. You will find her contact information on the website and in this month’s newsletter as well.

TRASH SERVICE

In January, WCA Waste (WCA) became your trash collection provider. Trash service days are TUESDAY AND FRIDAY. Please have trash out at curb by 7:00 AM each pick up day. Heavy Trash and/or extra bags are picked up on both pick-up days, Tuesday and Friday.

Recycling is every Friday

WCA takes great pride in our recycling program and efforts. Ensuring the best recycle program for our customers takes time and effort on both sides. Please remove caps, liquids and food products from inside the containers. Please only use the recycle bins for recyclable materials, not as an extra trash container. WCA will collect papers, plastics, aluminum and tin cans that are placed within the provided recycling bin. If items exceed container capacity, please place them adjacent to bin. WCA will provide each current residence with one recycling bin. WCA will replace any bins that are defective or otherwise become unusable due to normal wear and tear. Theft, lost or additional bins can be replaced at $8 each.

January 2013

If you find items left in your bin that are not recyclable please dispose of these items in your trash container for the next scheduled pick up.

If your recycling day falls on a holiday it will be picked up the next week on your normal scheduled recycle day.

47 YEARS EXPERIENCE

MORE THAN 165 PARTICIPATE IN 15TH ANNUAL PROMISE TO READ PROGRAM

Community members from Katy and the surrounding area recently stopped what they were doing to read to students in more than 345 classes as part of Katy ISD’s 15th annual Promise to Read program. Through Promise to Read, volunteers promised to spend 30 minutes reading to an elementary classroom during one week in November.   This year, ten Katy ISD elementary campuses hosted the event with Partners in Education: Morton Ranch, Hutsell, Nottingham, Kilpatrick, King, Pattison, Mayde Creek, Griffin, Bear Creek and McRoberts Elementary. Host campuses rotate each year so that, over a threeyear period, every Katy ISD elementary has an opportunity to participate.   “Promise to Read has become a volunteer event that many in our community really look forward to. Most of our visiting readers return year after year,” says Sandi Meier, Katy ISD Promise to Read and Classroom Champions Coordinator. “Having a guest reader in the classroom is a fun treat for students, but it also promotes the life-long joy of reading.”   Readers represented a cross section of local companies and organizations including: Amegy Bank, American Kids Athletics, AXA Financial Advisors, Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union, CenterPoint Energy, Chick-Fil-A of Katy, City of Katy, CiCi’s Pizza, Cinco Ranch Conservatory of Music, ExxonMobil, First Victoria Bank, Grand Vision Center, Gary Greene Realtors, Harris County Sheriff’s Department, Hasta La Pasta, H-E-B Katy Market, Herff Jones Graduation Center, Houston Aeros, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, Kelliwood Animal Hospital, Members Choice Credit Union, Memorial Hermann, Omni Houston Hotel Westside, Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt, Pediatric Dentists of Katy, Pepper Lawson Construction, Rainforest Café, SmartOrigami, The Shady Lady Window Coverings, Tradition Bank and Wood Group.   Promise to Read is one of several community involvement programs offered by Katy ISD Partners in Education, the department that brings the community into the classroom. Find more information about Partners in Education at www.katyisd.org/community (website).
