MONTHLY HOA MEETINGS Make sure you know what is happening in the Pin Oak Village HOA meetings by attending. Meetings are held at 6:30 PM on the second Wednesday of each month.

Bring the kids to see Santa at no charge and take your own pictures. He will be at Pin Oak Village Clubhouse, 1301 Misty Bend, on Wednesday, December 18th, from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Price of admission is a new or gently used book that Katy Area Retired Educators will donate to Texas Children’s Hospital, Katy. This is a great opportunity for you to take pictures and make a book contribution to the KARE project. Call 281-693-2119 for more information.

CLUBHOUSE RENTALS Martha Baxter is in charge of the clubhouse rentals. Pool rentals are still done through Michelle at Sweetwater Pool Company. There are still lots of good dates available for free clubhouse use. We would like to remind all residents that the clubhouse is for Members Only and must be current on all fees. Residents are limited to two free uses per year. There is a $100 DEPOSIT REQUIRED THAT WILL BE REFUNDED, IF THE CLUBHOUSE IS KEPT CLEAN. The clubhouse is also being reserved for possible holiday party use by the Board, for the benefit of Pin Oak Village residents. These parties will be scheduled soon, so watch for upcoming events at our website, To schedule lifeguards for any pool party, contact Michelle with Sweetwater pools at 281-300-6077. There is an additional form for Pool Rental, as well as cost, that must be

filled out and paid prior to scheduling lifeguards. No pool party can be had without the approval of Sweetwater and at least one additional guard. Feel free to contact Martha at 281-392-8007. Martha’s address is 24606 Mt. Auburn Drive. Martha’s email address is as follows: Due to the many clubs and church groups that have reserved weekly dates being sought for by residents, the preference for use will be given to residents needs over weekly functions. Jeff will do his best to accommodate both weekly reservations and resident’s use.

STREETLIGHTS The MUD taxes the residents pay help pay for the streetlights whether they work or not. If a streetlight is out or not working properly, please call 713-207-2222 and report the problem. Each pole has a number on it and you will need to give this number to the operator as well as the names of the closest streets. Last year we had a couple of lights out and the result was vandalism to several mailboxes. We need all lights working to keep our neighborhood safe. Thanks again to the Board of Directors at Ft. Bend County MUD #37 for saving us the cost of these lights.

TRASH PICKUP UPDATE The correct contact for trash pickup for Pin Oak village is as follows: Waste Corporation of Texas (WCA) 281-368-8397. Thanks again to the Board of Directors at Ft. Bend County MUD #37 for saving us the cost of trash pickup. Our MUD directors are saving us thousands of dollars by paying for the lights and trash each month.

Please respect other resident’s right to walk the common area ground without fear of attack from an unleashed dog. Laws are written to ensure that owned animals are confined to their property or kept on a leash to free a community of unrestrained and free-roaming animals. Although most dog bites occur on the property where the dog lives, unrestrained or free-roaming dogs do pose a substantial threat to the public. In addition, unrestrained animals are at increased risk of being bitten by rabies infected wildlife. Enforcement of restraint laws is essential in enhancing the animal control program’s efforts to reduce the risk of rabies in our community. LICENSING OF DOGS AND CATS The primary benefit of licensing animals is identification, should that animal become lost. Licensing also: • Ensures that rabies vaccination are current. • Allows for quick identification in case of a bite incident. • Provides revenue to offset the administration costs of the animal control program. VACCINATION Rabies vaccinations are a prerequisite for licensing dogs and cats because they are an important control measure for the public health threat of rabies. In addition to protecting pets, rabies vaccinations provide a barrier between infected wild animals and humans.

GARDENING TIPS FOR DECEMBER • If a long flowering period is desired, pansies should be placed in their permanent beds not later than this month. Fertilize monthly with manure, super-phosphate or a liquid high-phosphate product. Keep flowers picked for more bloom. • Take tulips out of cold storage and plant late this month. • Fertilize established trees, spring-blooming shrubs, spurias and sweet peas (after they are a foot tall) with a fertilizer such as 13-13-13; Louisiana iris with cotton seed meal and manure. • Azaleas and camellias may be moved now. Keep moist to lesson cold weather damage. May acidify again.

HOLIDAY SHOPPING SAFETY! We’re going to be out and about and this means our focus and attention are compromised. Be sure to put safety as your #1 wish item on your holiday shopping list. Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind: • Do not buy more than you can carry. • Save all receipts. • Wait until asked before taking out your credit card or checkbook. • Tell a security guard or store employee if you see an unattended bag or package. • Carry your purse close to your body or your wallet inside a coat or front trouser pocket. • Have your keys in hand when approaching your vehicle. Check the back seat and around the car before getting in. • Do not leave packages visible in your car windows. Lock them in the trunk or if possible, take them directly home. • If you are shopping with children, make a plan in case you are separated from each other. • Select a central meeting place. • Teach kiddos to know they can ask mall personnel or store security employees if they need help. • Before surfing the Internet, secure your personal computers by updating your security software. • Keep your personal information private and your password secure. Do not respond to requests to “verify” your password or credit card information unless you initiated the contact. • Beware of “bargains” from companies with whom you are unfamiliar. • Use secure websites for purchases. Look for the icon of a locked padlock at the bottom of the screen or “https” in the URL address. • Shop with companies you know and trust. December 2013

DECIBELLES (A BARBERSHOP CHORUS) Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle! We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 35 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year includes songs from the 1920’s, as well as a Spiritual Medley that will start your toes tapping.
