Happy Holidays! December 2012
Trash Containers The Board of Directors would like to remind all homeowners that trash containers are to be placed out of street view (behind a fence or in the garage) after 8 PM on trash pick up days ONLY and remain out of street view at all times. Shopping Carts If you are removing a shopping cart from any stores property, you are stealing. Several carts are found in the community each week and not returned to the store. This is not only theft but also detracts from the look of the community. Please do not bring shopping carts into the neighborhood and leave them.

VILLAGES OF BEAR CREEK Villages of Bear Creek
There is a new website for homeowners in the Villages of Bear Creek & Bear Creek Glen. Please visit www.mymcinc.com/ villagesofbearcreek for more information. The website has information such as your account balance, meeting minutes, deed restrictions and much more. You will need to request a log-in in order to view your account information for your property address. Deed Restrictions Reminders Garage Sales: Two garage sales a year is the limit under Texas Law. The Limited Sales, Excise and Use Tax Act says that people who are not operating a business are permitted to have no more than two sales of their goods each year. If you exceed this amount, you will be treated as operating a business and you’ll need to obtain a sales tax permit from the state. A quick Internet search reveals that a number of Texas cities also have ordinances limiting garage sales and some don’t allow them at all. Houston has no such ordinance, however, according to the city’s website. Instead, the city relies on the state law. Businesses are not allowed in the community. Trash Can Containers: Trash cans are to be out of site and remain out of view at all times, it takes away from property values. Street Curbs: Curbs are homeowners’ responsibility to keep clean and free of debris, (i.e. leaves and trash). Keeping these clean will ensure less street flooding, trash being forced down and clogging sewer drains. Oil Stains: If you’re having difficulties getting the oil and grease stains out from your driveway, there are a few mixtures you can buy at an auto part store that is less than $10. These mixtures will help get the oil and grease stains in your driveway.
Please be careful and slow down while driving through the subdivision; remind your young drivers to do also. We recently had a child hit by a vehicle on one of our streets. Please, be aware of your surroundings and parents, remind your children to watch for vehicles when crossing the street.

Keep moist to lesson cold weather damage. May acidify again. • Last month to plant early blossoming spring bulbs, speciosum and other varieties of lilies. CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION HONORS MILITARY HEROES
The Foundation will kick off its fifth “Salute to Our Heroes” event on February 9, 2013 at the Omni Hotel Westside Houston. “Salute to Our Heroes” honors the brave men and women who have served to preserve our freedom and liberty. Proceeds from this event go to an endowment enabling graduating students from CFISD to attend college. The event will be generously underwritten by Earthcare Management and Kodiak Gas Services, as the Missing Man Underwriters. The Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital will be the Major General Sponsor. This year our guest speaker is Steve Russell. LTC Steve Russell (Ret.) commanded the central unit responsible in the hunt and capture of Saddam Hussein. Through leadership and joint efforts across multiple teams, a large organization worked effectively to capture one of the world’s most notorious criminals. Russell is an American Hero. His proven leadership and problem-resolution techniques engage audiences through his storytelling.

Salute to Our Heroes has two purposes. First, to give tribute to our heroes - soldiers serving now, veterans and those who have been wounded or killed in action. We want to honor those who have served their country. The second purpose is to raise funds for scholarships for Cy-Fair ISD students. Each year we give three scholarships per Cy-Fair ISD high school, and the number of high schools is growing. It has been a challenge keeping up with the demand, but CFEF is dedicated to this mission. The inaugural event honors Jersey Village High School graduate 1st Lt. Jeremy E. Ray, who was killed Dec. 20, 2007 while serving his country in Iraq. A CFEF endowment was established in Jeremy’s memory by an anonymous donor. Last year the 1st Lieutenant Jeremy Ray Community Service and Peace Award was presented to Klein Funeral Homes & Memorials. Following tradition, the event will have the Missing Man Table & Honors Ceremony. The table will have empty table settings with chairs leaning up against the table as though saved for someone. The table settings have a single red rose displayed in a vase in reminder of the bloodshed for our country and the vase was tied with a red ribbon - a symbol of the continued pledge to shed blood for our country. A slice of lemon on the bread plate is a reminder of the bitterness of the loss of comrades in arms; a bowl of salt to symbolize the tears shed by family members of lost loved ones and glasses turned upside down indicate no one will sit there. Last year’s ceremony was performed by the 75th Army Division Honor Guard and was proceeded by Taps performed by William Veenstra, Cy-Fair High School Senior. For more information on the 2013 event please contact Marie Holmes at email@example.com or 281-807-3591.

CFISD culinary students had an impressive display at the Greater Houston Area Cupcake Battle, sponsored by the Hospitality Educators Association of Texas and held last November at Pasadena Rayburn High School. The students swept first through third places and took home two other superlatives at the event, which featured approximately 140 entries from high school students in greater Houston. Cy-Fair High School senior Kaylen Gonzalez won first place for her “Reese’s Cupcake,” followed by Cy-Fair senior Phillip Morado in second place for his “Triple Chocolate Pistachio Cupcake.” Cypress Ridge High School senior Nancy Lopez placed third for her “Mocha Cupcake.” Cypress Woods High School sophomore Shelby Richey won the award in the Best Cake category for “The Turtle Cupcake” and Cypress Springs High School senior Ajee Hayes won the award in the Most Elaborate Technique category for her “Peach Cobbler Cupcake.” “Congratulations to the CFISD culinary students, who took five of the eight awards. It is a remarkable achievement to have their cupcakes chosen from the approximately 140 entries,” said career and technical education coordinator Mark Williams. “These students and their teachers worked diligently and their hard work paid off.”

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through December. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

At the 9:30 AM worship service, the Journey Praise Band will be leading worship with celebrative music. In addition, the Rev. Greg Smith will be bringing an inspiring post-Christmas message. Everyone is invited to attend these special holiday fellowship and worship opportunities. In addition, we will have a nursery available for all of our worship celebrations except the 11 PM Christmas Eve service. For more information, please call the church office at 281859-4141. Cornerstone wishes each of you a “Merry Christmas!” and a “Happy New Year!”

2013 Relay For Life of Cy-Fair Cy-Falls High School
Friday, April 26, 2013 - 7:00 pm Come join our planning committee or register your own team to help raise money for cancer in our Cy-Fair community!! The Heart of Relay: During the Relay for Life event, three ceremonies are held. Survivors Lap: To start Relay, those who have survived their battle with cancer join together to walk a lap celebrating their victories over the disease. Luminaria Ceremony: At dark, the track is lined with candle-lit bags bearing the names of those who have been touched by or have lost their lives to cancer. Fight Back Ceremony: Before participants leave Relay, they make a personal commitment to help fight back against cancer in several ways. As interest in Relay for Life grew in the Houston area, the American Cancer Society began forming events in local communities and the first Cy-Fair Relay for Life committee was formed in 2004. This is our 9th year in Cy-Fair and our goal is to reach the $1 Million Dollar Mark. We are very close and only need $150,000 to meet our goal and with YOUR help, we can make this goal a reality!! 100% of our profits go to ACS to use for research and other programs. With more than 1,000 participants in last year’s Relay, we know that we can grow even bigger this year!
A prize auction will follow with fabulous items to bid on with the play money you win. Included will be a trip to Las Vegas, hotel stays, restaurant dinners, sports memorabilia, wonderful gift baskets, fantastic coupons and fabulous merchandise. We hope you will join us and promise you a fun-filled evening of Black Jack, Craps, Roulette, Poker, Slot Machines and other games. Snacks and drinks are included in the price. Donations appreciated.
