in the car. Many shopping malls offer security officer that will escort you to your car. Take advantage of that service.

It’s no secret that piles of unchecked holiday mail and newspapers can tip off burglars to an empty house and lead to holiday break-ins. If you’re traveling during the holidays, it’s a good idea to ask a neighbor to help keep up your home’s appearances so it doesn’t have that vacant look about it. Even a small favor such as asking your neighbor to occasionally park their car in your driveway can improve your home security. Use timers to turn lights on and off in the living areas of your home to give the appearance that someone is there.

SANTA’S VISIT Santa will ride through the neighborhood, again this year, with candy for the children. Watch and listen for the fire truck on Saturday, December 21st beginning at noon. It is important that small children are with a responsible adult or older child. Do not allow children to run into the street to collect the candy. Be aware of the traffic at all times.

CHRISTMAS DECORATION JUDGING Selections for outstanding decorations will be made on Sunday, December 15th between 7 PM and 10 PM. Please have your lights on, so they can be shared by your neighbors, as well as the judges. In order to distribute the honor, homes that were selected in the past three years will not be eligible this year.

During the holidays, there is an unfortunate increase in home and vehicle burglaries. There are a few things you can do to deter thieves. When shopping for those gifts, secure them in the trunk of your car or out of sight. Visible shopping bags are an invitation to thieves. Be aware of people around you and if you feel someone is following you or watching you, do not get

You can also take advantage of Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s vacation watch. Officers will be aware that you are away and will be watchful for suspicious activities around your home.

Permission to reprint granted by the National Safety Council, a membership organization dedicated to protecting life and promoting health. For many people, decorating the Christmas tree is a favorite part of the holiday. The National Safety Council offers some safety tips to make sure a mishap doesn’t spoil your holiday season. Christmas Trees A real tree can add to the spirit of Christmas by filling your home with beauty and the scent of pine. But a real tree can also pose a fire hazard. Each year, more than 400 residential fires involve Christmas trees and tragically nearly 40 deaths and 100 injuries result from those fires.

• Try to select a fresh tree by looking for one that is green. The needles of pines and spruces should bend and not break and should be hard to pull off the branches. On fir species, a needle pulled from a fresh tree will snap when bent, much like a fresh carrot. Also, look for a trunk sticky with sap. • Cut off about two inches of the trunk and put the tree in a sturdy, water-holding stand. Keep the stand filled with water so the tree does not dry out quickly. • Stand your tree away from fireplaces, radiators and other heat sources. Make sure the tree does not block foot traffic or doorways. • If you use an artificial tree, choose one that tested and labeled as fire resistant. Artificial trees with built-in electrical systems should have the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) label. Tree lights • Only use indoor lights indoors (and outdoor lights only outdoors). Look for the UL label. Check lights for broken or cracked sockets, frayed or bare wires or loose connections. Replace or repair any damaged light sets. • Also, use no more than three light sets on any one extension cord. Extension cords should be placed against the wall to avoid tripping hazards, but do not run cords under rugs. • Turn off all lights on trees and decorations when you go to bed or leave the house. Tree ornaments • Always use the proper step stool or ladder to reach high places. • Read labels before you use materials that come in jars, cans and spray cans. • Never place lighted candles on a tree or near any flammable materials. • Avoid placing breakable tree ornaments or ones with small, detachable parts on lower branches where small children or pets can reach them. • Do not hang popcorn chains and candy canes on the tree when small children are present. They may think that other tree ornaments are also edible.

One of our traditional fireworks holidays is approaching. Please be considerate of your neighbors while enjoying the tradition of fireworks on New Years’ Eve. Don’t use people, cars or structures as targets for bottle rockets and roman candles. It would be tragic to cause injury or damage on this exciting holiday. • Fireworks cannot be used in the neighborhood parks. • Do not direct any fireworks at anything or anyone. • Do not shoot fireworks off before 9 AM or after 10 PM on any day, (except New Year’s Eve: try to finish by 1 AM). • Avoid shooting fireworks that shoot up or fly through the air. • If a car comes down the street, get out of its way and do not light any fireworks while it is passing. • Don’t make the “fireworks holiday” turn into a month of fireworks. • Frightened pets must be taken inside while the fireworks are in use. Protect your pets at all times. • MOST IMPORTANT: Clean up the mess! Sweep the streets and drives (don’t forget to pick up the items that accidentally went into your neighbor’s yard). If you have a problem with someone that is shooting off the fireworks, please call the Constable’s office and ask for an officer to come by. Celebrate responsibly and have a designated driver if adult beverages are consumed! Concord Bridge

Deed restrictions are in place to maintain continuity within the neighborhood. Without these standards, a home could be left in disrepair or abandoned and could become a plight to our neighborhood. At entrances to the neighborhood, there are signs declaring deed restrictions are strictly enforced and when you purchased the home you were given a copy of the deed restrictions. Please remember, this is a legal document in place to protect the value of your home. Crest Management handles most of the business transactions for Concord Bridge under the direction of your Board of Directors. If you don’t understand any correspondence from Crest Management, please call for clarification. The homeowners association pays for all correspondence related to deed restrictions; therefore, duplicate letters cost you and me additional fees. Do not ignore correspondence from Crest Management! “I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through December. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

November also saw a chance for Girl Scout leaders to visit and learn from each other in a “café” event. Leaders have also been busy taking training classes and learning new skills. Those who attended the Council ETC (Every Thing Covered) may not actually have covered EVERYTHING... but there was certainly a lot to choose from! Copper Creek Meadows serves girls in the residence areas for the following elementary schools (and their corresponding middle and high schools): Wilson, Metcalf, Lieder, Tipps, Texas Christian School, Birkes, Fiest, Lowery, Horne, Owens, Hairgrove, Kirk, Lee, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Christian Life Center. Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Home schooled and private school students are always welcome. Girls may join at any level and no previous Scouting experience is required.

Girls from troops 16464 and 16172 show HEART pillows they made for breast cancer patients as a project for the International Quilt festival.

Copper Creek Meadows Service Unit held a “Taste of Girl Scouting” event in October for new Girl Scouts. The girls attending made beaded bracelets and began to learn the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Older Girl Scouts helped to teach some favorite Girl Scout songs, like “Princess Pat” and “Yogi Bear.” The audience participated in telling a story about Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low Many thanks to all who helped with the event and all who attended! Our Leader/Daughter event took place early in November at Rocky River Ranch in Wimberley. Girls and their leader moms enjoyed some special time together in a variety of camp activities. The talent show and Dutch Oven cookoff are always popular events. Hiking, playing in the river and some time spent shopping in Wimberley helped round out the weekend.

Don’t forget that many of our most exciting activities are open to our older Girl Scouts. We have riding and sailing programs, a JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery) program, dance and drill teams, choirs, backpacking groups and many other programs. You can check out the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council website at Contact Dianne Massie (Dianne. or call 281-550-9148 for more information.

On October 25th, Girl Scouts from Firefly Trails Community enjoyed a Juliette Gordon Low Birthday celebration and Fall Festival. In addition to games, dancing and contests, our Girl Scouts were visited by members of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department, the Chick-Fil-A Cow and Juliette herself! Girls also brought donations to benefit patients at Texas Children’s Hospital’s West Campus. Many thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers who made this happen! Concord Bridge

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Build self-confidence. • Provide service to others. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly.
