Please park your vehicles in your garage or at least in your driveway, trucks on your street. If you must park on the street, be considerate of the neighbor across the street, who must back from a driveway in order to enter the street. As our area has grown, so has the number of vehicles in the subdivision. Most seem to have more than one car per family and some have even more, as the children become driving age. Please try to be considerate of others who try to navigate between the cars that are left on the street. Children darting into the street or riding bicycles are more easily seen with less parked cars blocking the view of them. Thank you for your cooperation.

KATY ISD ANNOUNCES 2012 DISTRICT-WIDE TEACHERS OF THE YEAR
Two outstanding teachers have been chosen as the 2012 Katy ISD teacher at Bear Creek Elementary and Brittany Spurlock, English surprise visit from Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey.
Dominguez, this year’s Elementary District-wide Teacher of the Year, is a self-contained bilingual teacher and team leader. She has taught in Katy ISD since 2008 and holds a B.S. in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin. Dominguez says that what makes teaching rewarding for her is to see students grow academically and in character as the year progresses. Spurlock, this year’s Secondary District-wide Teacher of the Year, teaches both English III & IV, and has been with Katy ISD since 1998. She holds a B.A. in secondary education, English and Dance from the University of Houston and is currently working on her Master’s in English. Spurlock enjoys fueling energy in her classroom by celebrating accomplishments and creating a desire amongst teachers through the fears and challenges of education.

KATY HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR’S MASTERWORKS CONCERT On May 5th, the Katy High School Choir presented a Masterworks Concert, a project they undertake every two years. This year provided a unique opportunity for the choir students. The work they performed, Requiem by Bradley Ellingboe of the University of New Mexico, was a beautiful and moving work that both enhanced the students’ music education and delighted our audience. It was a very special experience for the students in that they had the opportunity to rehearse and perform under the direction of the composer. The evening featured a full orchestra and a solo by KHS choir senior Alex Thurman.

Crazy Days of 5th Grade is the 3rd book in the Iggy the Iguana chapter book series for children which focuses on themes of the upper elementary classroom, including making new friends, positive changes in learning styles and respect for others. When Iggy’s new teacher, Mr. Gruff the goat, continues to eat his homework, he realizes his old ways of studying are over. It will take the mind of a creative genius and a lot of make-believe to revitalize Iggy’s concentration in class. What started off as a lonely, boring school year missing his best friend Snap Shell the turtle, turns into a suspenseful ride that includes a strange encounter with a crab and an unexpected trip to the hospital. With the help of his friends and his little sister’s stuffed animals, Iggy discovers a hidden talent proving what he once considered a problem was really a gift in disguise.
