Estate Your Real Life! r o f e c r u o Res If each person did their own part (around the outside of their home including their little stretch of street in front of their house), what a better place this would be to live! A clean environment/neighborhood makes people feel good about themselves. They will keep it clean. Some need to be reminded. Others need to be continually reminded. It takes time to change habits. Keeping your neighborhood clean is a habit that takes conscious effort.
281-391-SOLD (7653) www.lizcarter.com Our Family Serving Your Family Since 1976 Timely Tip for April Gardeners Celebrate Earth Day this month and go “green.” A successful garden begins with good soil. Organic material is important to the soil composition. It helps with drainage and increases the soil microbe population. Expanded shale is used to break up hard, compacted clay soils. Applying molasses will help stimulate microorganisms and energize your plants. Top dress your flowerbeds and containers with organic mulches. They not only break down slowly putting organic material back into the soil, but they also prevent weeds, conserve moisture and cool the soil during the heat of the summer. There are products that are safe to use around pets and children. There are also beneficial insects available such as Ladybugs, Lacewings and Beneficial Nematodes! These guys will attack the pests and take care of them “naturally.” Submitted by: Calloway’s and Cornelius Nursery

Westheimer Lakes Annual Mardi Gras Parade and Party We had a great turnout at our annual Mardi Gras “Krewe of Westheimer Lakes Rascals” Parade and Party this year. The weather felt like Spring and everyone had fun with the activities for both kids and adults. Entertainment included a DJ, parade, best “float” contest, games, moonwalk, firetruck, face painter and balloon artist at the Westheimer Lakes North Clubhouse. Special thanks to the Fulshear-Simonton Fire Department for being a part of the parade and the event. And, a thank you from Stanley Elementary Cub Scout Pack 1103 for your generous canned food donations to the Katy Christian Ministries food pantry. Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre Company Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre Company proudly presents Ravenscroft, by Don Nigro, Thursday through Saturday and Monday, May 3-18, 2013 with a preview on Thursday, May 2nd. Directed by Rob Kimbro and starring Sean Patrick Judge, Michelle Edwards, Claire Anderson, Karen Schlag, Zoquera Millburne and Kara Ray. SYNOPSIS: This psychological drama is a thinking person’s Gothic thriller, a dark comedy that is both funny and frightening. On a snowy night, Inspector Ruffing is called to a remote house to investigate the death Patrick Roarke. He becomes involved in the lives of five alluring and dangerous women, all of whom are suspects in the murder. There are ghosts on the staircase, skeletons in the closet and much more than the Inspector bargained for. His investigation leads into own tortured soul and the nature of truth itself. You will not guess the ending, but you will be teased, seduced, bewildered, amused, frightened and led to a dark encounter with truth or something even stranger. DON NIGRO is an American playwright; his plays Anima Mundi and The Dark Sonnets of the Lady have both been nominated for the National Repertory Theatre Foundation’s National Play Award. He has won a Playwright’s Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment For The Arts, grants from the Mary Roberts Rinehart Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council, and twice been James Thurber Writer In Residence at the Thurber House in Columbus, Ohio…. a fun ride and it’s also fun to discover all those kinky goings-on that you always suspected lay beneath those stuffy British murder mysteries. You’ll never look at Agatha Christie quite the same way again… Paolo Alto Weekly

Cary H. Smith Family Owned & Operated Since 1989 In order for the students to come to the U.S. they must have proper host families lined up. Now is a crucial time of year for the Ayusa program as local staff coordinators to find local host families for the upcoming school year. The Ayusa program is celebrating its 30th year this year and is responsible for more than 60,000 students from 75 different countries spending the school year in the United States. There are not many strict requirements that need to be met to host a student. The most important thing is that those who host students are doing so for the right reason; providing a loving experience and an exposure to American culture.

There are a few basic requirements, of course. Anyone older than 25 and can provide food and shelter for a student fulfills the requirements of being a host family. There is a background check, reference check and an interview. Background checks have to be done on everyone over 18 living in the home. The host families have to be interested in it for the right reasons, the cultural exchange of learning from them and them learning from us. It’s the language, the cooking, the music, the food. The host family has to be genuinely interested. Once the host families and students are matched, Ayusa stays involved by monthly contacts with the families, students and quarterly contacts with the schools. Ayusa coordinators also handle the host family orientations and the student orientations. Group activities, such as community service and seeing things with the group of exchange students is also arrange throughout their academic year. With the current school year quickly coming to an end Ayusa’s local staff is busy looking for families for students for the 2012-2013 school year. Many families are needed and with the schools having deadlines and limits for foreign exchange students the earlier the better. It also gives the families and students time to get to know each other via skype, facebook, etc. while waiting for their year abroad to start. Please contact Heather Wells by email firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone 281-770-3414.

Mrs. Antoinette Chew is a proud wife and mother to three children ages 7, 10 and 15. A graduate of Texas State University, Mrs. Chew was raised in New Jersey, but has been a Texan since 1993. Mrs. Chew has been in the Christian community since birth and been involved with Christian children’s programs since 1996. She worked as St. Johns Children’s Choir Director, St. Michaels Children’s Choir Director, Children’s Ministry Coordinator and most recently an elementary and early childhood music teacher.
