YEAR-END 2012 TREASURER’S REPORT

Good news for all homeowners! Our financial condition ended year 2012 in a very strong position. When books are finally closed for 2012, our Balance Sheet will indicate that we now have close to $53,000 in Replacement Reserves. This is one of the key measures I use to judge our community’s financial well-being. When developers built this community over 10 years ago, it was determined by engineers that it would be prudent to set aside $50,000 for emergency replacement of community assets. The idea was that this fund would only be used when unexpected expenses overwhelm community finances. Accounting for cost inflation over the last 10 years, the level required today would be even much higher. This emergency fund remained untouched till 2010 when it was almost completely depleted, leaving the Board no choice but to increase annual dues and go on a stringent financial diet. We cut expenses everywhere we could and took serious steps to collect on unpaid balances from the delinquent homeowners. The efforts finally have paid off. Only less than 2% of annual assessment revenue for 2012 remains uncollected and subject to deferred payment plans. As community assets continue to age, they will be prone to more frequent breakdowns and maintenance. We try to budget for these and strive to adhere to our budgets so that Replacement Reserves remain untouched. We will continue these measures in 2013 so we don’t have to burden homeowners with an increase in annual assessment dues down the road. Thank you. Sincerely, Shailesh (Sam) Vyas Treasurer

2013 Homeowner Assessment Dues

TRAVERS & TRAVERS A TTORNEyS • m EDiATORS

Homeowner assessment for 2013 is due in full on January 1. 2013. If you still have not paid, you are now delinquent as of January 31, 2013. Any outstanding amount will now incur finance charges and may also result into penalties. AMI will also revoke homeowner privileges (such as swimming pool entry, participation in neighborhood social events, etc.) for homeowners that are delinquent. Timely payment of your assessment reduces third party collection fees that HOA could incur, thereby saving money for all homeowners. If you need help in arranging a payment plan, please contact Kris Bradshaw at AMI as soon as possible.

February 18th - Student Holiday

CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION HONORS MILITARY HEROES

The Foundation will kick off its fifth “Salute to Our Heroes” event on February 9, 2013 at the Omni Hotel Westside Houston. “Salute to Our Heroes” honors the brave men and women who have served to preserve our freedom and liberty. Proceeds from this event  go to an endowment  enabling graduating students from CFISD to attend college. The event will be generously underwritten by Earthcare Management and Kodiak Gas Services, as the Missing Man Underwriters. The Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital will be the Major General Sponsor.

This year  our guest speaker is Steve Russell. LTC Steve Russell (Ret.) commanded the central unit responsible in the hunt and capture of Saddam Hussein. Through leadership and joint efforts across multiple teams, a large organization worked effectively to capture one of the world’s most notorious criminals. Russell is an American Hero. His proven leadership and problem-resolution techniques engage audiences through his storytelling. Salute to Our Heroes has two purposes. First, to give tribute to our heroes - soldiers serving now, veterans and those who have been wounded or killed in action. We want to honor those who have served their country.

The second purpose is to raise funds for scholarships for Cy-Fair ISD students. Each year we give three scholarships per Cy-Fair ISD high school, and the

4

number of high schools is growing. It has been a challenge keeping up with the demand, but CFEF is dedicated to this mission.

The inaugural event honors Jersey Village High School graduate 1st Lt. Jeremy E. Ray, who was killed December 20, 2007 while serving his country in Iraq. A CFEF endowment was established in Jeremy’s memory by an anonymous donor. Last year the 1st Lieutenant Jeremy Ray Community Service and Peace Award was presented to Klein Funeral Homes & Memorials.

Following tradition, the event will have the Missing Man Table & Honors Ceremony. The table will have empty table settings with chairs leaning up against the table as though saved for someone. The table settings have a single red rose displayed in a vase in reminder of the bloodshed for our country and the vase was tied with a red ribbon - a symbol of the continued pledge to shed blood for our country. A slice of lemon on the bread plate is a reminder of the bitterness of the loss of comrades in arms; a bowl of salt to symbolize the tears shed by family members of lost loved ones and glasses turned upside down indicate no one will sit there. Last year’s ceremony was performed by the 75th Army Division Honor Guard and was proceeded by Taps performed by William Veenstra, Cy-Fair High School Senior. For more information on the 2013 event, please contact Marie Holmes at marie@thecfef.org or 281-807-3591.

DISTRICT RECOMMENDS VACCINATIONS, TREATMENT IN WAKE OF FLU ACTIVITY

In response to reports of the influenza virus throughout the state, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is joining the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) in urging students, staff and community members to receive a flu vaccination and taking additional steps to protect against the flu.

February 2013

Villages at Lakepointe

According to the DSHS, each season’s flu vaccine provides protection against three strains of flu. Researchers with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported that the current vaccine is well matched with strains of the flu in circulation. “Since prevention of disease is the best way to protect the health and wellness of CFISD students, staff and community, the CFISD health services department supports the CDC and DSHS recommendation that all people aged 6 months and older be immunized against influenza,” said Bevin Gordon, CFISD director of health services. As of Dec. 3rd, the CDC reported that approximately 37 percent of the U.S. population aged 6 months and older had been vaccinated, with children showing the highest rate of vaccination (45 percent). The DSHS recommends a vaccination for everyone 6 months or older, especially those in the high-risk groups - children, those aged 65 and older, pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions. In addition to vaccinations, Gordon and the health services team are encouraging parents and students to protect themselves and others by washing their hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes and staying home from school if they are exhibiting flu-like symptoms until they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications. For more information on the flu, including a vaccine finder, please visit TexasFlu.org. To find information on where to receive a flu shot, contact a health care provider, a local health department or dial 2-1-1.

CYPRESS HOOPS INVITATIONAL BRINGS IN MORE THAN $22,500 FOR STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

The third annual Cypress Hoops Invitational Tournament, held Dec. 6th - 8th at CFISD high schools and the Berry Center, raised more than $22,500 for the “Donate to Educate” program, which provides college scholarships for district students as well as staff development grants to CFISD for innovative and creative teacher training. The 24-team tournament was hosted by the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) with the goal of engaging the entire community in order to promote basketball, generate community spirits and raise funds for the CFEF. South Grand Prairie High School won the tournament, while Langham Creek High School placed second. North Cypress Medical Center served as the event underwriter for the third consecutive year. Methodist Willowbrook Hospital was a platinum sponsor; The Howard Hughes Corporation/Bridgeland was a gold sponsor; Burg Insurance Agency and Pride and Recognition, Inc., were silver sponsors and Wainwright Dental & Associates, P.C. was a bronze sponsor. “The tournament was a success for the third consecutive year,” said Marie Holmes, CFEF executive director. “As the Cypress Hoops Invitational continues to grow, so does the amount we are able to raise for Donate to Educate. We thank the incredible sponsors who will help us to grow the tournament into the future.”

High School Drama Takes Third in TAPPS Competition: The high school drama class recently completed a successful run of “The Great Pandemonium,” by Pat Cook, entertaining audiences with both in-class and evening performances. Since many of the roles were double cast and the performers took turns playing in the various shows, no two shows were alike, giving each performance an exciting “life of its own.” When the cast and crew took the show on the road to compete at the TAPPS Regional One Act Play Contest, the run culminated with an impressive third place finish. Director Dia Moore was pleased to report that in addition to the accolades for the show, the cast and crew won an extraordinary number of individual awards. Jordan Wandix was named Best Actor. Bailey Comeaux was named to the All Star Cast. Marya Gray, Ben Holman and Kaitlyn Miracle were named to the Honorable Mention Cast. Chris Ramirez

2013 Relay For Life of Cy-Fair & Cy-Falls High School

Friday, April 26, 2013 - 7:00 pm Come join our planning committee or register your own team to help raise money for cancer in our Cy-Fair community!! The Heart of Relay: During the Relay for Life event, three ceremonies are held Survivors Lap: To start Relay, those who have survived their battle with cancer join together to walk a lap celebrating their victories over the disease.

February 2013

Villages at Lakepointe

Luminaria Ceremony: At dark, the track is lined with candle-lit bags bearing the names of those who have been touched by or have lost their lives to cancer. Fight Back Ceremony: Before participants leave Relay, they make a personal commitment to help fight back against cancer in several ways. As interest in Relay for Life grew in the Houston area, the American Cancer Society began forming events in local communities and the first Cy-Fair Relay for Life committee was formed in 2004. This is our 9th year in Cy-Fair and our goal is to reach the $1 Million Dollar Mark. We are very close and only need $150,000 to meet our goal and with YOUR help, we can make this goal a reality!! 100% of our profits go to ACS to use for research and other programs. With more than 1,000 participants in last year’s Relay, we know that we can grow even bigger this year! For more information, contact Erin Kasperek below: erin.kasperek@cancer.org Phone: 713-706-5652 | Mobile: 281-732-8324 www.relayforlife.org/cyfairtx

Veterinary Public Health Division HARRIS COUNTY LEASH LAW

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

REMINDER OF HARRIS COUNTY BANNING OF SALE OF ANIMALS ALONG PUBLIC ROADS

In 2007, Harris County moved to ban sales of animals along public roads and parking lots in unincorporated areas. A violation is a Class C misdemeanor which can mean a $500 fine.

We care so much about the Dachshund breed that we can’t bear the thought of any Dachshund suffering. We have one sole purpose and that is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home Dachshunds in need of a second chance at life and love. Our rescue efforts are primarily focused on purebred (and a few mixed) Dachshunds from pounds and shelters. We also aid in the rescue of Dachshunds forced to live in deplorable and inhumane conditions, as well as those which have been abused, abandoned, neglected and starved of food and human affection their entire lives. We believe there is a loving home somewhere for every dachsie rescued… some just take a little longer to find. Become a Foster Parent today or Opt to Adopt! - Not in a position to adopt? We are always in need of additional foster homes. As a foster parent, you have the opportunity to help many dogs by simply providing a safe and secure environment in which a rescued Dachshund can live and be loved until they are physically and emotionally ready to be adopted. Your only out of pocket expense is a little dog food, which, if you already own a dog, you already have in place. While fostering isn’t always easy, it is extremely rewarding. If you’d like more information, please visit our website at www. DachshundRescueOfHouston.org or join us on Facebook at Dachshund Rescue of Houston. Questions? Email us at Fosters@ DachshundRescueOfHouston.org. DRoH is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All tax-deductible donations, no matter the amount, will go a long way toward providing necessary medical care, furthering our efforts to place healthy Dachshunds with loving families. ALL TEXAS DACHSHUND RESCUE is a non-profit organization consisting of volunteers dedicated to the rescue and placement of Dachshunds and Dachshund mixes into foster or permanent homes. If you would like to become a foster parent or adopt one of these wonderful little dogs, please check us out on the web at www.ATDR. org or email info@atdr.org.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays.
