www.foxlandscapingonline.com For all your home maintenance and repair needs call us today. No job is too small.
The Copper Village Board of Directors has received a number of calls and emails from homeowners identifying issues with neighborhood garbage service. These issues range from missed pick-ups to damaged garbage cans, spilled trash and everything in between. Unfortunately, the CV Board of Directors has little to no authority in these matters. If any homeowner has an issue with garbage service, they should call Waste Management direct at 713-695-4055 to voice your complaint and request corrective action.
Over the past months the Copper Village Board of Directors and Association Management, Inc. (AMI) have received calls reporting break-ins and vandalism in the neighborhood. If you see a crime in progress, call 9-1-1. Please direct all non-emergency calls first and foremost to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office: 713-221-6000. On-line reporting of some crimes can be accomplished through the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Online Police Reporting System at www.hcso.hctx.net. The Copper Village Board of Directors and AMI appreciate your notifying us of criminal activity in the subdivision, but please call Harris County Sheriff’s Office, file a report and let’s get these criminals out of our neighborhood.

www.WeBuyGoldCenter.com of a dog or cat under the provisions of these Regulations.” Restraint is defined as “The control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question; or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle; or 3. When it is on the premises of the custodian and the animal does not have access to a sidewalk or street.” Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by may be very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Please help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also protect the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet. To make a complaint or report an animal that is not properly restrained please contact: Harris County Animal Control: 281-999-3191. Also, please be responsible pet owners and pick up after your pets in order to keep our sidewalks, paths, lawns and park areas a place we can enjoy without worrying about where we step or what we step on.
On non-trash days, the garbage cans and waste management containers are to be placed out of visual sight (inside your garage or behind your fence). If you do not follow this procedure, you are in violation of Copper Village deed restrictions. Please remember that our community receives garage-door pickup for trash – there is no need to drag your garbage cans to the curb! Simply place
your trash by your garage door and Waste Management will do the rest. Bulky items (yard trimmings, etc.) and recycling still need to be placed at the curb. Please leave the sidewalks unobstructed for the pedestrians in our community.

HAVE YOU RETURNED YOUR IRIS REGISTRATION FORM?
If not, what are you waiting for? The Immediate Response Information System (IRIS) will be used to send reminders to residents of upcoming community events as well as distribute emergency information such as boil water notices, evacuation information or other public safety issues. Thus far approximately 50% of Copper Village residents have returned the registration form. All residents are encouraged to register. If you’ve misplaced your form, please contact Trinh Basarabescu (713-984-7217) at AMI.
COPPER VILLAGE COMMUNITY DECAL
The Board of Directors for the Copper Village Homeowners Association recently implemented a community decal system to identify vehicles of owners within the community. All residents of Copper Village are strongly recommended to have a community decal visible on the front passenger side windshield of every vehicle that is permanently kept at their residence. Two decals have been mailed to each resident; if you need additional decals, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. The purpose of this program is to better

Harris County law and your Governing Documents require that when your pet is outside the confines of your property, it must be leashed and under the direct supervision of a responsible person. Should your pet need to relieve itself, please be prepared to immediately clean up after it. All persons walking dogs within Copper Village should carry some means to pick up what their pet leaves behind. This includes picking up from sidewalks, parking areas, parks and other areas where your neighbors enjoy walking. Please do not allow your dog to relieve itself on your neighbor’s lawn. This can be very upsetting to homeowners.
TREES AND SIDEWALK MAINTENANCE
Homeowners are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring trees growing on their property (this includes trees planted on corner lots that are not in the front of the property) are properly trimmed and do not hang low over sidewalks or the street. In addition, homeowners are responsible for maintaining sidewalks along their property. Homeowners could be held liable for any injury that occurs as a result of overhanging limbs or sidewalk deterioration.

GARDEN TIPS FOR AUGUST
• Time now to make plans for fall landscaping projects. • Clean up flowerbeds of fallen foliage, yellowed leaves and dead wood. Light green leaves may signify lack of iron (chlorosis). Correct with iron cheleates. • Cut off old dead foliage on irises. Scratch in a little bone meal around the roots. • Prune roses to reshape and groom plants for fall growth. • Wait until November to plant petunias and pansies. • Chinch bug damage is obvious now. You will have areas of thin and/or dead turf where they weren’t brought under control. There is a new generation going now. This batch causes the most damage. Use Dursban to stop the damage. • Until the weather gets back to the 80’s, St. Augustine grass grows slowly. If you fill in with sod, don’t expect a fast turnaround. The sod may look like it’s not growing while it puts down roots. You will need to water the new sod often and deeply to get it started but this also creates a disease environment. Water early so the sun can dry the turf. • Now is a good time to work new beds. Till them up, add organic material, mix it in, then let them cure for a month or so. Add in any amendments like micro-nutrients. Keep the beds moist so the microorganisms have a favorable environment.

Crazy Days of 5th Grade is the 3rd book in the Iggy the Iguana chapter book series for children which focuses on themes of the upper elementary classroom, including making new friends, positive changes in learning styles and respect for others. When Iggy’s new teacher, Mr. Gruff the goat, continues to eat his homework, he realizes his old ways of studying are over. It will take the mind of a creative genius and a lot of make-believe to revitalize Iggy’s concentration in class. What started off as a lonely, boring school year missing his best friend Snap Shell the turtle, turns into a suspenseful ride that includes a strange encounter with a crab and an unexpected trip to the hospital. With the help of his friends and his little sister’s stuffed animals, Iggy discovers a hidden talent proving what he once considered a problem was really a gift in disguise.

KiMberly AKiMbo, By David Lindsay-Abaire, Directed by Ron Jones, november 29-December 15, 2012, STUDIO 101 (1824 Spring Street, Houston 77007). Kimberly Akimbo is a play written in 2000 by Pulitzer prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. Its title character is a lonely teenage girl suffering from a disease a lot like progeria, that causes her to age 4 and a half times as fast as normal. Thus, Kimberly is trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman. She meets another misfit (a teenage boy) and the two form an attachment to one another that borders on attraction. The situation is not helped by Kimberly’s rapidly deteriorating health. Soon Kimberly’s family gets mixed up in some crazy money schemes and the family gets emotionally destroyed.

Aaron’s project was to put up a world map on the side of the building at Horne Elementary. Larry, who held his Eagle court of honor on July 4th, built two turtle platforms and reclaimed a lake at the Cy-Fair ISD Nature Trails. The boys are sons of Scott and Charlotte Heki. The parents are justifiably proud of these three sons and feel it a rare privilege to be sending all three off to serve at the same time. The Heki family has lived in the Copperfield area for about 15 years and attend church in the Copperfield Ward of the Katy Stake of the LDS Church, on Longenbaugh at Park Falls.

COPPER CORNERS SERVICE UNIT GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL
Girl Scouts in the United States have been celebrating 100 years of Scouting and the Copper Corners Service Unit has been joining in the excitement! On March 30th, we held a birthday celebration, with cake and lots of party games face painting, dancing and fun. As a service project, troops prepared “birthday parties in a box” (everything you need for a birthday party. These beautifully decorated gift boxes were donated to Cypress Assistance Ministries. The birthday party and activities were planned and run by Troop 16018, Troop 16043 and Troop 16053. On April 29th, Copper Corners Service Unit had a “Chalk in the Park” event, at the Langham Creek YMCA. Girls and their families came together to create sidewalk chalk art representing things that Girl Scouts enjoy doing. Older Scouts served snow cones and popcorn and everyone joined in a sing along under the pavilion that finished up with a Friendship Circle. We would like to express special thanks to the Langham Creek YMCA for making this afternoon event possible. Thanks also to Julie Mayer, the event organizer and to all those who helped make it a success. We are all looking forward to the B.I.G. Council event on September 29th at the George R. Brown Convention Center. It will be a Believe in Girls event, as well as an event for every Girl Scout in GSSJC. That makes for one really BIG event and a great chance to learn about
While summer is a time for Girl Scouts and their leaders to enjoy time with friends and family, many of our girls have been attending council camps. GSSJC offers resident, day and twilight camps and there are many things to do there. Whether it is trail riding at Misty Meadows, learning to crew a “big boat” at Casa Mare or one of the many other camp activities, we know that they are having fun, learning new skills and making friends. Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council Copper Corners Service Unit serves all girls in the residence areas for Lowery, Birkes, Fiest Elementary Schools, Aragon and Labay Middle Schools and corresponding high schools. Once school is back in session, we will be holding rallies to form new troops and welcome new scouts and new leaders. Don’t forget that girls can get involved at any age level and that home schoolers and private school students are always welcome. Be on the lookout for more information on rally dates!!

PACK 445 OUT OF FIEST ELEMENTARY
Welcome back to the exciting chronicles of Pack 445!
Our Scouts are having a fantastic summer and cannot believe that soon school will be starting! In July, the Scouts attended the first ever “Cub Olympics!” This was a great time that included a chili cook-off, basketball, shaving cream wiffle ball, a cobbler contest, a raingutter regata and much, much more. The boys and their families had a great time and cannot wait to do it again next year. Then, the Scouts were able to cool down from all the heat this month at the annual pool party. When they weren’t swimming, they were munching on some great snacks! We still have lots of room for new Scouts! So, if you have a boy in 1st-5th grade in the Copperfield area and would like to join scouting, please see our website at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ cubpack445houston for more information.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through August. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

BOY SCOUT TROOP 996 - FOUR SCOUTS HONORED WITH EAGLE RANK
Four Eagle Scouts held a combined court of honor celebrating their attainment of Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank. The four young men, all of troop 996, sponsored by the Copperfield Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are Andrew Juergens, Larry Heki, Quinn Taylor and Ryan Patrick. Only about five percent of Boy Scouts persevere to reach the rank of Eagle, so having four from one troop at the same time is outstanding. Each Eagle Scout has completed at least 21 merit badges and has served in a series of leadership roles and he must complete a selfdirected major project. The accomplishment says much about the character of the young man, but also much about his scout leaders and parents, who have encouraged him over many years. During the June 27th court of honor ceremony, Texas Rep. Duane Bohac honored the Eagles as guest speaker. Andrew Juergens is the son of Kurt and Gretchen Juergens. He is about to start his senior year at Langham Creek High School. His Eagle project was to collect used baseball and softball equipment, donated to RBI (Recycled Baseball Items). The baseball equipment will be used for inner city baseball teams and the softball equipment will be sent to troops overseas. Larry Heki is the son of Scott and Charlotte Heki. He graduated from Langham Creek High School in 2010. Larry actually completed his Eagle requirements last summer, but left for a year of study at Brigham Young University before there was time to celebrate with a court of honor. His Eagle project was done for the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District’s Nature Trails facility. It was a conservation project in which he led and participated in the removal of an invasive species of water plant, the parrotfeather, a noxious weed that is a native water plant of the Amazon River in South America. He also built two new floating platforms to place in the pond for the turtles, ducks and other wildlife to use to sun themselves or to rest on. Larry has been studying chemistry and leaves in late August to serve as a missionary for two years in Finland.

Quinn Taylor is the son of Tim and Janet Taylor and the third in the family to earn the rank of Eagle. His project was completed for Houston Marine Moms. He organized the collection and sorting of donations used for care packages sent to Marines serving in Afghanistan. Quinn is a well-known basketball player for Langham Creek High School. He will be attending Utah State University on a basketball scholarship this fall, studying civil engineering. After his freshman year he plans to serve as a missionary for two years before returning to sports and school. Ryan Patrick is also a basketball player. It was through his basketball friendship with Quinn Taylor, starting in third grade, that Ryan learned of scouting and got involved in Troop 996. He is the son of Rich and Jeannie Patrick. His project was to make large animal feeders for Boys and Girls Country. Many of the students at Boys and Girls Country participate in FFA (Future Farmers of America) competitions with the hope of earning college scholarships. Ryan’s project was to help them in their efforts. Ryan will be attending Texas A&M University this fall, in the Mays School of Business.
