Kramp Smart Business Event 2015 This year Kramp will once again hold a number of OEM Events in the Netherlands for Benelux customers. On Thursday the 11th of June the Kramp Smart Business Event 2015 will be held in Arnhem in collaboration with the HAN University of Applied Sciences. The OEM Engineering Day will also be held later this year.

The focus of the Kramp Smart Business Event 2015 will be on Lean and Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM), two related approaches for improving business processes. Lean is directed primarily at getting rid of wastage and the central objective of QRM is shortening turnaround times.

Straight to work Speaker Jannes Slomp will give a talk on the Extended Enterprise, focusing on the future challenges for OEMs. Then Kramp will give its vision of how it can assist companies who want to have a LEAN business. Once the symposium is over, you will be able to put the knowledge you have acquired into immediate practice to start changing how your company operates.

Workshops and practical examples The symposium will outline the key principles of these two approaches. In addition, practical examples will be given and participants will be invited to attend a range of workshops. A LEAN/QRM game will be played during one of the workshops and the other sessions will deal with the topics of Road Map Technology and 3D Printing.

The Kramp stand at SIMA in Paris at the end of February was the perfect platform to introduce the Cylinder Configurator to the French market. This new and innovative online tool caught the eye of both existing and prospective customers.

Many were interested in the numerous benefits of the configurator which was first presented to customers and contacts at the Kramp Open in Strullendorf, Germany, at the end of 2014. Most visitors were interested in how easy it is to use and how it speeds up the configuring and ordering of cylinders through the webshop. Another big advantage is that information about the price and delivery time is immediately available. On the stand, customers and our account managers discussed other technical issues and needs of the marketplace.

Technical services Visitors were also able to find out about the technical services we offer in terms of engineering, sourcing and set delivery.

Regarding the latter, plenty of questions were asked by customers wanting to reduce their Total Cost of Ownership.

In addition to our cylinder products, our stand also displayed components for hydraulic systems and drive technology.

In the UK, the 2015 exhibition season began with the LAMMA Show. This was held for the second time at its new location in Peterborough. With more than 40,000 visitors and over 1,000 stands, LAMMA is the largest annual agricultural show in the UK. As always, low temperatures and a cold wind did not deter many visitors to LAMMA. This provided the perfect audience for the latest products and services that were presented at the show. Suppliers, customers and manufacturers spent time talking to each other and this generated valuable feedback for many parties.

Creating value together

Cultivating Solutions One of the exhibitors at the LAMMA Show was Cultivating Solutions, a customer of Kramp, who presented Genesis, their latest soil loosening and cultivating module. This disc coulter sows seed in the same pass and is suitable for precision agriculture (CTF systems). Richard Scholes from Cultivating Solutions expects to present the first full size machine, which is over 13 meters wide, at the Cereals Event on the 10th and 11th of June.

The first quarter of this year is already behind us, but the challenges for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are still there.

Maweton in ’s-Heerenberg in the Netherlands is one of Kramp's oldest customers.

This OEM produces customer specific solutions for a range of industries including the food, logistics and construction sectors. Maweton has used the Cylinder Configurator regularly since this innovative online tool was launched.

Challenges include: On-time machine production, development of new products, cash flow, after-sales service and often with limited resources. On top of these challenges, OEMs are also facing global issues such as conflict in certain countries and exchange rate fluctuations.

Designing these customer specific solutions requires considerable engineering expertise and knowledge of components. Maweton has its own in house experts who handle both these angles, but some cases require additional knowledge to be brought in. "This added value is always a high priority for Kramp and their product specialists allow us to respond quickly and efficiently. This is very important for us and we also select our suppliers on this basis", explains Jos Schenning, director/technical adviser at Maweton.

MONROC has designed and manufactured axles, certified brakes, suspensions and multi-axle systems for the agricultural sector for almost half a century. The French company is part of the KERPRO family group. It has 220 employees and had a turnover of 90 million euro in 2013.

The Monroc trade name comes from the names of the two founders of the company, Monvoisin and Rochelande. The company is located in the west of France, close to Nantes on the Atlantic coast. MONROC has two production locations, one in France and one in China.

Its customers are manufacturers of mobile equipment in the agricultural, construction, earth-moving and mining sectors.

Extensive testing In addition to almost 50 years of experience with machining, turning, milling, welding and assembly, Monroc also specialises in research and development. Products undergo extensive testing under demanding conditions in order to guarantee top quality. The company operates its own quality assurance system "Monroc Control Search" alongside testing for this purpose. This means that products are monitored for quality from the concept stage right through to production and delivery.

Quick and simple The added value is also very evident to Schenning in the Cylinder Configurator.

"Previously we would give the Kramp product specialist the specifications for a cylinder and a few days later we would receive an offer which included the desired dimensions, stroke length, pressure, connecting nipples and so on. One of our engineers can use the online tool to easily design a cylinder in a couple of minutes and this can then be ordered immediately. Designing cylinders with the configurator saves us time during the subsequent construction and assembly".

3D, prices and delivery times In addition to saving time, the direct availability of prices and delivery times and step files (3D drawings) are very important for the company.

“All in all we can now respond much faster both technically and commercially. The ability to import the 3D drawings into our drawing program was a major and necessary step for Kramp.
