Designer Profile—

LSS Designer. LSS Designer, founded in 1992, were a three man German product design consultancy with the late Christian Lepper, Roland Schmidt and Uwe Sommerlade. The two remaining partners continue great work attracting international recognition and awards for their innovative and refreshing designs across a broad range of products.

Lip.

All three company founders trained as joiners and studied design at Kassel University. Product development is as important as the design. An idea is simply the start of a process during which the product takes shape. Discussions and experiments, close cooperation with clients, and attention to detail are the determining factors in reaching the goal. Their chair designs show timeless simplicity and are beautifully streamlined using clean, deeply elegant lines and sublime comfort.

The creative combination of formal and constructive competence becomes most evident in the design projects for renowned manufacturers producing furniture for the home and for large venues. Independent projects with architects, graphic and other visual artists are consciously intended to enter into an inspiring interaction with the design of items for serial production. “For us, design means looking at the right solutions and picking the outstanding ones. Roland Schmidt

Initially commissions were for private clients, but briefs from larger commercial organisations increased in number and became the focus of the workshop.
