On May 15th, th e nin th Windwhistle Golf Classic was played at Terrace Downs Golf Resort with a field of over one hundred players. This event is the major annual fundraiser for Windwhistle School and this year’s funds are earmarked for financing extra teaching hours to support the diverse needs of the school’s students. The day dawned cool and calm, which promised good golfing conditions for players. The day was enjoyed by all and apparently there were also a few contenders for the wooden spoon! The players enjoyed delicious packed lunches on the course provided by a dedicated group of school mums who met early on tournament day to attend to the catering. Following eighteen holes of golf there was an opportunity to unwind and relax at the Clubhouse before the prizegiving and to support the School further by purchasing raffle tickets. Many spot prize winners got to choose from the prize table which had been generously filled by many of the supporting companies. Hazlett Rural provided auctioneers for an entertaining action packed auction held with generous prizes donated by High Peak, Mt Hutt Helicopters, Mt Hutt Ski Area, McPhail Sports, Terrace Downs, Crystalp Jewellery, along with Newzengland clay shooting and archery together with meat prizes from Silver Fern Farms and Five Star Beef. Both the auction and raffles were well supported making them outstanding successes. The day concluded with a delicious buffet meal in the evening attended by players, together with school parents and locals.
