Yes, it is possible, but not what you're thinking. The secret is to prepare to lose weight after your pregnancy is complete, which you can do while you're pregnant. Which is the same thing, in a way. Pregnancy is when an expectant mother should eat more to help her body nurture the baby. Some experts even advise those who are on a diet plan before the pregnancy to forget about the diet until afterwards. Where does all this extra weight go? It seems as if it doesn't really make sense that you should gain some thirty pounds when your baby is only going to weigh around seven to eight pounds. But there's much more to it than the baby itself. The rest of the weight goes to two pounds of amniotic fluid, two pounds for your enlarged breasts, one and one-half pounds for your placenta, two pounds for extra uterine muscle. Now figure in four pounds of extra blood, and about four pounds more of water retention. All of this is necessary. So what's the rest? Amazingly, there's only an average of about seven extra pounds of fat added during pregnancy! This is actually needed for raw storage of energy for your body to burn in nurturing the baby; in fact the fancy clinical name for it is "maternal stores"! Part of this goes to the baby directly, and part of this is burned after giving birth in the form of making breast milk to feed the baby. So understanding what your body is doing with all that weight will help you to understand what is needed and what isn't. Keep in mind that after pregnancy, it took nine months to put that weight on, so it should take nine months to work it off. However, your doctor will be just as concerned about your possible obesity as you will, and will be keeping you from putting on too much weight, which is just as important as putting on too little. After all that, correct nutrition is essential and you should make sure your pregnancy diet you're on is appropriate to ensure a healthy pregnancy.
