Drivers are urged to be cautious and adhere to traffic regulations. “We are working in close consultation with the Eastern Cape Department of Traffic, who have been instrumental in helping us plan,” said Pickering. All loads will travel to Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm as single consignments, except through Port Elizabeth where there will be a police escort for the larger components that will travel together to reduce disruption in the city. “Due to the length of the transportation

In preparation for the turbine transportation programme, the construction team has already made modifications to the N2 highway to accommodate the large turning radius of the abnormal loads. .Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm will comprise 60 turbines on a site spanning 3 700 ha. The wind farm is expected to supply enough clean, renewable electricity to power more than 114 116 South African homes and avoid more than 420 000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year. The wind farm is expected to start supplying electricity to the national grid by mid-2014.

KOUGA EXPRESS | THURSDAY 18 JULY 2013

Watching TV becomes more expensive RESIDENTS will have to pay more for their TV license tariffs from September this year. The fees for all TV licenses, including household TV licenses, will increase with R15 from R250 to R265. This means that there is an increase of R1,25 a month. However, this minor increase in price does not seem to sit well with TV licence holders. Heather Leigh Arends from the Kouga Express asked residents how they feel about this increase. Locals have argued that the current price for a TV-licence is already too much based on the quality of entertainment they are receiving. Many have admitted to not paying their TV-licenses due to not being able to afford it along with their other monthly/yearly expenses. Senior citizens have said that it is not fair to have to pay the current amount while on pension and that an increase is not going to be well received. This will be the fourth time that TV-licence tariffs have been increased in the last 14 years.

Hercules Steffens: “The increase in unnecessary as the price is reasonable as it is.

Thobeka Ndovela: “I don’t like it, it’s too much for me to pay now that it is increasing.”

Mziyanda Ncqina: “The price for a TV licence is expensive to begin with.”

Two house robbers arrested MONIQUE BASSON TWO men arrested by the Jeffreys Bay Police following a house robbery in Koraal Street on July 12 are believed to be linked to about four other cases. The possible links were established from stolen property found in their possession at the time of their arrest at their homes in Ocean View. According to w.o Petra Els, the suspects, Chumani Bokwe and Zolile Mbaru gained access to the house in Koraal Street, Jeffreys Bay by forcing open the sliding door. The incident took place at approximately 08:00. “When the home owner saw the suspects, they fled with his Galaxy phone and watch. He opened a case of house robbery,” said Els. “At approximately 21:20 that same night, reservist w.o James Teyise, sgt Richard Tulumani and constable Thandoxolo Masala, who were already off duty, received information from the public that two men are in the process of selling stolen goods in No Ten Rand.

“Without any hesitation, they placed themselves back on duty and followed up the lead. They arrested the two suspects in Ocean View. The one suspect was in possession of the Galaxy phone, while the other suspect tried to hide the stolen watch.” According to Els, the one suspect was also wearing the jacket of the owner, which was stolen during a previous house breaking two weeks ago. “At the home of the one suspect a plasma television, also stolen during the previous breaking in Koraal Street, was recovered, as well as various other items - including a second plasma television and two empty laptop bags - connected to other cases,” said Els. According to Els, these two suspects are also connected with several cases of theft from motor vehicles. “We are certain that as the investigation progresses, they will be linked with more cases,” said Els. “We urge residents to be more security conscious. Keep your windows closed and install a special lock on your sliding door that will prevent criminals from opening the door.”

Jeffreysbaai pak rioolprobleem ILSE KRIGE & MONIQUE BASSON

I

Mandela Day The kids way WHAT makes the perfect gift? Something expensive? Something handmade? Something into which a lot of thought and hard work went? Or a gift that someone needs? Natalie Thompson from the Kouga Express asked the kids of Jeffreys Bay what they would give Nelson Mandela on his birthday. If the children have their way, Mandela will be spoilt with comic books, toys, cake, chocolates, a skateboard a horse and even a blue racing car and a house.

Nina Snyman (5) from Smart Kids Pre-School: “I want him to have a Barbie doll and Spiderman book.”

Chase Alberts (6) from Smart Kids Pre-School: “I want him to get a skateboard and a horse. When my sensei was in the hospital I took him a lollipop and he felt better, I would take him a lollipop.”

Kayla Hickman: “I want to make him a card with a big hug, because everyone in hospital needs a big hug.”

Mieke Hickman: “I want to give him a huge and cuddly teddy bear.”

Security guard chases after his goal NATALIE THOMPSON HE is someone you greet every morning on your way to work. He is friendly and polite and can make your day start off on a good note. While keeping people and their property safe, security guard Michael (Melikhaya) Gwadiso, spends every free minute working towards his life goal. And that life goal has just become a reality. Driving past Gwadiso on their way to work or home on a daily basis, little do the residents of Marina Martinique realise that after endless perseverance and hard work, their friendly security guard just obtained his certificate in hotel management from Oxbridge Academy, securing it with Cum Laude commendation. Gwadiso studied part-time while working as a security guard for ADT Kusela Security at Marina Martinique. “Studying part-time and working full-time was difficult. It took me 16 months to obtain my certificate,” said Gwadiso. “I studied when I was at home and took my books to work. If I had free time at work, I would use it to study.” He now hopes to put his days as a security guard behind him, and to enter the hospitality industry. “I have applied for various positions, but all management positions require experience. But this will not stop me. I am determined to gain the necessary experience, Michael (Melikhaya) Gwadiso obtained a certificate in even if I have to start as an assistant and work my way hotel management from Oxbridge Academy with Cum to the top,” says Gwadiso. The current energy situation in South Africa demands we change the ways in which we generate power.

With the potential to power more than 114 000 homes each year, reduce carbon emissions, save water and positively impact our economy and environment, the winds of change are blowing at Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm.

Dates 22 July to 31 January 2014, wind turbines will be transported along the N2 from the Port of Ngqura to Humansdorp. Whilst every effort to minimise traffic disruptions is being made, we urge commuters to allow extra travel time due to possible delays.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

T

he Volkswagen Sasolracing team gets just one opportunity every season to compete in front of its home crowd in Uitenhage, Jeffreys Bay and Port Elizabeth.

This season rally fans will see the team back in Sasol colours. “For Volkswagen Sasol-racing the home event is an important one,” says Mike Rowe, head of Volkswagen Motorsport. “For many of the members of the team this is a chance to show their friends and family the hard work that gets done at every event around the country.” The rally begins tomorrow at the VW AutoPavilion when the cars leave from the ceremonial start at midday. Before this the vehicles will be held in parc ferme at the

AutoPavilion parking lot and fans can mingle with the team, see the cars up close and take photos with their favourite rally competitors. According to route organiser Joe Fourie, the first stage takes place just around the corner at Volkswagen’s own vehicle test track, close to the new PeoplePavilion complex. That stage starts at 12:15 with the rally field heading out to the Longmore Forest for stages two to five. Stage six is at Fountain’s Mall in Jeffreys Bay at 16:54 with the final stage for Friday in the centre of the town at 19:00. “On Saturday the Kings Beach finale will be very exciting.
