10th July 2010 PROJECT REPORT ODDUSUDDAN – RESETTLEMENT WORK – 4TH AND 5TH JULY 2010 IPP Hiran De Silva and Jaliya Bodinagoda participated and represented Rotary Club of Capital City, with regard to the projects carried by Rotary Club of Capital City, as well as the joint projects carried out with FOMSO (Federations of Malaysians Sri Lankans Organisations) The following projects were carried out in Oddusuddan, Mullaitiuv District on 4th and 5th July by the Rotary Club of Capital City. 4th July 2010
Colour Products (Pvt) Ltd., came forward and generously agreed to sponsor and hold an Art Workshop in Oddusuddan for teachers and 200 students. They were given art paper and crayons, and gift packs as well. The Officials from the Ministry of Education too were present to assist this Workshop. Since this was the first time, a project like this was carried out, other than giving the teachers basic lessons in art work, the kids were given the opportunity to draw whatever they pleased. The finer points of drawing art will be done, in the next workshop, hopefully to be carried out in couple of months. It was a tremendous success and brought immense joy not only to the kids who did the art work, but also to everyone else who was there. The arrangements for the kids and teachers to be in Oddusuddan School were done by the Officers of the Sri Lanka Army 64 Division. Nestle Lanka, on a request made by us, generously donated 225 Milo packets, which was also distributed among the kids and teachers, which they enjoyed very much. Once we carry out these art workshops, we may be able to hold an art exhibition in Colombo, and sell some of the art work, and utilize the proceeds to buy gifts not only to the young artists, but also to assist their very own schools. For the moment, we want them to enjoy being kids and drawing art. Please find below pictures of the kids at the Art Workshop. 1
Please find below some of the art work done by the kids. There is amazing talent ... please ...enjoy !
Cost of Project: Approximately Rs. 90,000/One again that is the value only in rupees and cents, but the satisfaction for the kids to express their minds and to participate in such a workshop, cannot be quantificated in money.
Distributing children’s clothes.
On our previous visit, there was a request by the Principal of Thanduvan School, to assist 4 teachers by providing sarees. When this need was informed to Mrs. Sujatha Kulatunga Attorneyat-Law, she in turn conveyed this requirement to Sri Premananda Mission, and within couple of days, they collected nearly 200 sarees and other garments to be distributed among teachers and school children. The childrenâ€&#x;s clothes and sarees were handed over by the Sri Premananda Mission to Jaliya Bodinagoda, in the presence of other members of the said Mission.
It must be mentioned that the clothes were all laundered, neatly packed and most importantly in very good condition. There were some brand new sarees as well. Please find below the list of items donated.
We thank the Sri Premananda Mission and the donors for their generous donation. 6

Rotary Club of Capital City and FOMSO were discussing of doing a toolkit project in Oddusuddan to donate approximately 50 tool kits each costing about Rs. 5,000/-. However, we informed FOMSO that we already carried out a tool kit project, where we distributed 230 tool kits and that it would be best if we purchase Sports goods, Exercise Books, pens and pencils, with the project money. This suggestion was duly considered by FOMSO agreed to proceed with the Education Project. Rs. 200,000/- was pledged by FOMSO for the Oddusuddan – Education Project. We purchased 1200 (80 pages) Work books for grades 1 and 2, 400 kids, and 5640 (120 pages) the normal single rule and square rule books for the grades 3 to 10, 1880 kids. The 2400 children, each received 3 books, 2 pens or 2 pencils and an eraser. We nominally handed 5 kids from each school, a gift pack containing the books. We handed the quota of books per school, depending on the number of school children and instructed the respective Principals to distribute it among the school children.
We could have given more books to less number of kids. However, since all kids are in need of books, decided to donate it to all, equally. 12
Cost of Books – Cost of Pens and Pencils etc – Total Cost –

The Sri Lanka Army provided a bus to transport the clothes, schools books and sports goods. If not for their assistance, we had to hire another lorry or van and the cost of transportation would have necessarily reduced the money that we would have been able to spend on the school books and sports goods. Hence, we thank the Sri Lanka Army for coming to our assistance, in such a short notice, loading all these items from our site and transporting them to Oddusuddan, on our behalf. Value - Rs. 50,000/3.
