Koro Klets FROM THE GMʼS DESK…

IN THIS ISSUE

We wait with baited breath! There is no doubt summer has arrived and it gave us very little warning, the normal gradual transition from our cool winter days and biting cold mornings to the bright

summer days with frequent thunderstorms and warm nights was skipped this year. Call it El Nino or La Nina or any other Spanish name, the fact remains our weather is messed up. It is the eighteenth consecutive month that global temperature records have been broken, the earth is getting hotter. I am sure this might seem like good news for Canadians but it is a major risk and challenge for Africa and Southern Africa in par‐ ticular. We only need to take a drive through our estate to see the devastating effects of the combination of low rainfall and un‐seasonally high temperatures, like many of you, I think I spend a great deal of my day scouring weather sites for some glimpse of a promising weather pattern. My passion for our course sometimes getting the better, I jump from pray to science like some bipolar rain obsessed weather nut. Until I once again realize we Worship an Awesome God, the Word tells in the beginning there was God, He created the Heavens and Earth, created from nothing. Just because we as man in our self‐proclaimed importance give names to things we do not under‐ stand, or explain them using our own floored and limited knowledge as reference, does not mean we now have any more control over these things than a Impala walking in the veld has over the weather. We may have some understanding of why it rains or does not rain but we cannot influence it by knowing this. Our faith is thus continually being limited by the worlds knowledge and understanding, why do we believe what the world is teaching us, as fact, but The Word giving us by our Father is placed in a limit‐ ing box of the worldʼs reality. Is it not time to break free from this lie! All good things come from God, we are his children and have the right to ask for mira‐ cles so why limit this by worldly pessimism. I would like to encourage all of you to please pray for rain diligently and with conviction each night and each morning as we are in need of a miracle and our God specializes in this. Our Estate is doing well and although we are still struggling with our cash flow, our business projections look good until the end of November. Progress is being made on the course and in the restaurant so we remain positive. I would like to encourage all home owners to project a positive message of our estate wherever they go to continue to build on the positive sentiment in the market place towards Koro Creek. After all each and every one of us is a salesman or woman for our estate. In closing, Christmas is only 68 days away, make your lists and get ready as with the speed the year has gone so far itʼs just a blink of the eye away.

RiddleGolf Academy - Pro Tip of the Month Journey with us to better golf Fairway bunker play made easy A course without bunkers is like a golf ball without dimples, it just does not work. Bunkers on a golf course do not just provide a challenge, but are there to save you from rolling out of play or to give you an indication to where you need to go. So repeat after me: “the bunkers are my friend not a bottomless pit of wasted shots” We have all hit the ball from the tee and then it rolls into the fairway bunker and thought oh well that’s another black out for me. But this does not need to be the case. By following these few easy steps, you can get out of there without much effort. 1. Get the yardage and take one more club than what you would normally use for that distance. 2. When setting up your stance move the ball slightly back in your stance. 3. Dig in your feet slightly. 4. Now for the top secret tip, turn your back foot inward. This will ensure that your bottom half stays stable and you do not move over the ball. That will ensure for a more solid strike on the ball. 5. Try to hit the middle of the ball. Please note that this is for fairway bunkers that are shallow like the bunker on number 17. This is not for pot bunkers like what you find at St Andrews. There you take your wedge and just chip out. I am looking forward to hear how this has improved your game!

The Rules - Simplified… Testing conditions in a Bunker or Hazard

This month we focus on the meaning of testing conditions in a Bunker or Hazard. (Rule 13-4a and Decision 13-4/0.5)

Q. What is meant by “test the condition of the hazard” in Rule 13-4a? A. The term covers all actions by which the player could gain more information about the hazard than could be gained from taking his stance for the stroke to be made, bearing in mind that a certain amount of digging in with the feet in the sand or soil is permitted when taking the stance for a stroke.

2

Examples of actions that would not constitute testing the condition of the hazard include the following: digging in with the feet for a stance, including for a practice swing, anywhere in the hazard or in a similar hazard; placing an object, such as clubs or a rake, in the hazard; leaning on an object (other than a club) such as a rake while it is touching the ground in the hazard or water in a water hazard; touching the hazard with an object (other than a club) such as a towel (touching with a club would be a breach of Rule 13-4b); or marking the position of the ball with a tee or otherwise when proceeding under a Rule. Examples of actions that would constitute testing the condition of the hazard in breach of Rule 13-4a include the following: digging in with the feet in excess of what would be done for a stance for a stroke or a practice swing; filling in footprints from a previous stance (e.g. when changing stance to make a different type of stroke); intentionally sticking an object, such as a rake, into sand or soil in the hazard or water in a water hazard (but see Rule 12-1); smoothing a bunker with a rake, a club or otherwise (but see Exception 2 to Rule 13-4); kicking the ground in the hazard or water in a water hazard; or touching the sand with a club when making a practice swing in the hazard or in a similar hazard (but see Exception 3 to Rule 13-4). Golf like any other sport is more fun if played by the rules. Come and get your free Rule book in the Pro Shop.

Vanuit die Kaptein se pen / From the Captain’s Pen With no significant rain, we can once again thank David, Johan and the Koro Creek Team for keeping the course in such great golfing condition. We hope that the members and residents also appreciate the effort that has been put in to tidy up the course, manicure it further and make it more attractive. It is the result of these efforts, combined with professional management that has made Koro Creek the golf course of choice in Limpopo. Sponsors and visitors continue to dominate and contribute 85% to golf revenue. As the experience grows in managing big tournaments, so will this experience extend to the restaurant and bar capabilities, and the general hospitality appreciation. The Club has recently had great success in the running of the Koro Creek Open Championship, and large Sponsor Days for NTK and the Limpopo Tourism Golf Extravaganza. Revenues and number of rounds played are up by 11% on last year despite a declining economy. The interest and support continues to grow for the Friday Sundowner event, and we thank Morne and David for arranging the first Chip ‘n Sip event for the Ladies. The men’s League Team currently lies in second position in Limpopo with one game to go. Good luck Team! The Committee is very grateful to the support it receives from the Board, residents, members, visitors and of course the all-important sponsors.

PLEASE NOTE THE GOLF COURSE IS CLOSED ON MONDAYS EXCEPT ON PUBLIC AND SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

I’m sure we can all feel the heat and that the wonderful summer is surely already upon us. Another few great golf days and great feedback received from numerous golfers. We pray, hope and believe that the rain will come soon. We are however very grateful for the borehole that we have at number 17 and so glad to say the pump at 16 is now up and running again. We will surely first concentrate on the watering of the greens and after that start to check the worst tees. We are currently busy with the bunker on number 2 and 3 and I believe all can say the bunker’s play and image will surely be much better when the projects are finish. Thanks for all the support and help. Kind regards, Golf Course team

We have no?ced that our animals on our estate , especially the Njala’s and Meercat are tearing the black rubbish bags open, looking for food. Firstly this is very dangerous for the animals , as a small piece of plas?c can cause death. Secondly this aBracts animals which can at a later stage cause a big nuisance.

Bronnelys:
