My Story Hola mi gente, my name is Korina Moreno. I am a student at San Francisco State University studying Visual Communication Design. As I got older I always knew I wanted to change the world. I remember watching Meet the Robinson by Disney and being inspired in creating a future that we would all benefit from. I am a big advocate about working with the community and helping out one another. How one contributes is up to each individual. I love working with virtual reality, coding, typography, newspapers, and print. I want to explore and create with more mediums to inspire and empower. A quote from Meet the Robinsons “Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”

My Vision The “Count Me In cards are inspired by the latino bingo called Loteria. These cards are designed to inlfuence the Mission Districts community to participate in the 2020 Census. Accion Latina, a non-profit organization in the Misison District, San Francisco had a visions to create infographic cards that would resonate with the Latino community. Accion Latina and I decided that Loteria inforgraphics would be the best way to empower the community to participate in the Census 2020.

Process When designing the Count Me In Loteria cards I researched the Mission District community. I noticed that the biggest issues in the Mission District are housing and health care. Two out of the three cards are based on issues in the the community. One of the Census loteria cards is genereal information on the census with information that we thought would benefit the community.

Impact The Census Loteria cards are impactful to the Mission District community because these cards inform people about the impact the Census has in their community when people participate. By participating in the Census the federal government distributes funding to different health care facilities, schools, and the community as a whole.

CITY HEIGHTS MAP

My Vision The Anatomy of Growing up in City Heights Map is not only a map but it is also part of my story. I designed a map of the place that I grew up in, added personal experiences and attached emotions to those experiences. City Heights, San Diego is a place that I hold close to my heart.

Process For this project I learned that in order to create a successful piece I had to create categories. I organized my categories in two groups, experiences and emotions. Creating categories can make your work sronger and more organized. This is a tool that I continue to use through out my design career.

Impact Making my experiences into a visual gave me a peace of mind, I was able to accept these memories and make them stepping stools to my learning of life. Not only was it impactful in my personal life but also in my carreer. After designing this map I learned more about myself as a designer and as a map maker. Since designing this map I have designed maps for other companies and projects.

3 EVERY DROP COUNTS

My Vision My vision was to create an invoice that would somehow change the world. I designed this waterbill to make a statement on how every drop counts, not only with your paycheck but also in the world. I believe it is important to use our design skills to make an impact.

Process My inspiration came from looking at the original sfwater invoice. I did a redesign on how I thought the water bill should look like. There has been countless times where I open my water bill and go straight to the total. I designed this waterbill to be upfront and personal, to ensure that people feel the need to conserve water. I created a slogan tht would capture the intention of the design.

Impact With my design I was able to get two points across, conserving water and saving money. This invoice is designed to tell people that every drop counts in the world and in their paycheck. This design is intended to be sassy because people do not listen when suggesting to conserve water nicely. It is time we started advocating for the only world we have and imapcted the world through design.

ORGANIC RUTH ASAWA

My Vision The Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts is a public arts high school in San Francisco, California. They offer students an alternative college preparatory experience: a full academic curriculum complemented by a pre-professional arts training program in which students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The high school wanted to keep the Ruth Asawa vision alive so I designed an organic logo that resembled the artist Ruth Asawa.

Process I kept the logo as close as possible to the art work of Ruth Asawa. Since the school was named after her I created a logo that I felt would best represent her work. The illustration resembles the bottom of a basket she designed. I used earth toned colors because Ruth Asawa’s work is very organic and I wanted to keep her same vision alive.

Impact I studied Ruth Asawa’s work and created a logo that best represented her work. This project had an impact in my design career because it taught me how to do research and connect critical information for the logo.
