KONVENTUM The name Konventum has been inspired by convent and converse. Because in our house people come together in order to speak with one another and experience things together.

Preface

The requirements for meetings and conferences in a unique setting becomes bigger and bigger. And it requires more from both the person responsible for the conference and the conference centers. Konventum is a modern conference and educational center set amidst a 300,000 sqm green park with a magnificent view of the Oresund. We have 20,000 sqm, so here it is possible both to hold conferences, sleep, eat, exercise and socialise together in one place in one of the most unique buildings in Denmark. Konventum is for those who find value in being at a conference center a little out of the ordinary. Here is world renowned Danish design, art and architecture, but without restrictions from glass displays and custodians. We wish to share the experience of being part of Danish heritage with our guests. Konventum’s story is an exciting cocktail of architecture, zeitgeist, art, learning and personal development. Our extraordinary past and many proud values are still active today, as part of the ingredients for a successful conference. But Konventum is much more than these words. It is an experience you will never forget. 6

Consultants Conferences and meetings are often organised with a well-defined aim of creating change in a company. The administrative booking staff have a much larger responsibility today than merely booking rooms, refreshments and catering. Because the value of your conference has to be able to be felt long after you have said “Goodbye” and left the conference centre – and this makes demands on the way a conference is run. Konventum’s architecture has been well thought out, designed, and built on a vision about creating the best possible framework for everything from presentations, kick-offs and lectures to workshops, group work and team building in the same building. Without having to enter into contracts with outside agencies and consultants. Konventum’s consultants are known for creating an effective link between theory and practice. Our success is built on many years’ of documented experience within the fields of: facilitation, presentation methods, team building and assessment. Together we will ensure that the aims of your conference are transferred actively to your everyday life and have the desired effect in the short as well as the long term. Use our process consultants when drafting your conference program. Use our valuable facilitation tools during your conference and get assistance in implementing the results of the conference in your company afterwards. Contact us to learn more about how we can ensure that your conference kicks off effectively in relation to your aims. 11

Technical assistance & AV-equipement

Konventum has a permanent staff of AV technicians who set up the meeting room according to your requirements. If you experience problems with the technical equipment, our technicians are ready to assist you during the course of the day. At Konventum we also offer you to use Audience Response System (ARS) - or clickers - as an active part of your conference to increase participant awareness and the collective interaction in conference content. ARS is a voting system that is wirelessly added to the presenter’s PC and integrates with PowerPoint, Word and Adobe. Questions can be integrated in the presenter’s PowerPoint, so polls can be made underway. Via anonymous or non-anonymous responses the presenter can thereby get quick feedback on participants’ opinions during a presentation. The answers are displayed as graphs and can be stored for later analysis. Documented studies show that more dare to participate in debates and fewer are dropped on the floor during lectures if you use clickers.

Creative conference facilities At Konventum we have a lot of traditional meeting rooms. But the demands placed on creative meeting rooms where there is an opportunity for breaking conventions for presentations, dialogue and cooperation are becoming greater and greater. Because the effect of breaking down the customary framework is recognised. Consequently, Konventum offers a range of alternative meeting rooms where you have the opportunity of taking on the challenges and objectives in another manner than in an ordinary meeting room. The lay-out of the rooms opens quite naturally up for another type of dialogue which can lead on to other processes and decisions.

Or you can move out onto the terrace and continue working out in the open. The room invites you to work creatively with your material and is well-suited to managerial meetings, group work or workshops.

FACT The Garden Room has been fitted out on the basis of documentary knowledge that the physical environment has an enormous influence on how we concentrate, receive and adapt new knowledge. The Garden Room’s soft furniture, distinct shafting light and direct access to the park is not, therefore, a coincidence - these are tools which help make your meeting even more effective. 28

The rooms have both been designed to accommodate the four learning style categories in order to give our conference guests the opportunity to break their usual habits and open up to new inspiration, new knowledge and new lines of thought. The custommade meeting tables invite to a greater involvement from the meeting contestants and more dialogue across the table. Both rooms are suitable for presentations, group work or work shops.

The History

Konventum is a modern conference and education centre. And the building encompasses an exciting history of Danish design, art, architecture, the spirit of the times and personal development. When in the 1950s the trade union movement was working with the idea of a new workers’ education centre, The Workers’ Educational Association and the Danish Federation of Trade Unions arranged an architectural competition in 1958. The result was the education centre, LOskolen, which was built from 1966-69. The education centre existed as a Danish high school according to Danish legislation from 1969 – 2008 and was designed and built to encompass completely new teaching methods focusing on the inquisitive and creative human being, who did not want to be limited by a single classroom and on which the building’s manifold architecture has left its indelible mark. The building is refurbished with beautiful, modern facilities and still has the unique historic framework which inspires and stimulates the senses in all kinds of ways. 40

In 2010 the Konventum was enhanced with the title as Denmark’s most recently built listed building on account of its significant cultural and historical value and unique architecture. Conferences, meetings, courses and education continue to be the focal point at Konventum where opportunities for interdisciplinary interaction and the unique surroundings create a very special framework for professional and personal development, which is decisive in conjunction with sharing knowledge, education and development. Quality, aesthetics, originality and diversity are our values and focal points. The values are expressed through Konventum’s architecture, art, facilities and the education courses on offer – and are also the demands we continue to make on ourselves in the further development of Konventum. Development is not over at Konventum. And it never will be either. Because times does not stand still here.
