Optimized Print Services Success Story Company Profile: MOL Nyrt, Budapest, Hungary MOL Group is a leading integrated Central and East European oil and gas corporation with an extensive international upstream portfolio. The company focuses on two major product segments, categorised as upstream and downstream segments. The company owns and maintains full operational control of the total domestic high-pressure pipeline system. MOL’s shares are quoted on the markets of the Budapest, Luxembourg and Warsaw Stock Exchanges. Moreover the company was listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability World index for the second time in 2011.

Customer’s current situation/challenge An intelligent printing environment can have a significant positive effect on profitability by increasing effectiveness and efficiency in everyday work, particularly in large companies with multiple locations and complex organisational structures like MOL. Being one of the biggest oil and gas companies—not only on the Hungarian market—MOL’s office printing environment has definitely been a challenge: 21 sites had to be included in the optimisation process. Many of the member firms had their own insular solution and used single-function devices such as printers, fax machines and scanners. The major objective was therefore to enable MOL to implement change in the infrastructure of the printing environment and switch from local printing and copying to a corridor concept. This would not only be of benefit to MOL but would also positively affect the corporation’s environmental impact.

Konica Minolta solution MOL brought the OPS project to a successful end and largely achieved its objectives with the help of Konica Minolta. At the beginning of the optimisation process MOL had 2,700 devices. During this project MOL managed to significantly reduce this number to 460 devices and introduce an overall cost management system by authentication with IC card on 258 devices, an overall device management solution and an on-site operator from Konica Minolta as local technical support.

Optimized Print Services OPS has three implementation phases. The first is OPS Consult, in which Konica Minolta analyses and identifies the customer’s environment and can then propose the best solution. OPS Consult is followed by OPS Implement and OPS Manage.

OPS Consult MOL IT first established a few basic rules for the optimisation process: for example, specifying the distance of the devices (black and white and colour) from one another. Konica Minolta simultaneously started an on-site survey of all the 21 bigger sites of the MOL group to get an idea of the general infrastructural situation. Based on the information thus obtained, Konica Minolta performed analyses of the devices, user needs and location specifics while adhering to the basic rules established by MOL. The final solution, based on the results of the internal and external analyses, was designed together with the MOL specialist.

OPS Implement Konica Minolta delivered several hardware printers (bizhub C364/C280, bizhub 36, bizhub C35 and bizhub 20) as well as different intelligent software solutions (SafeQ, CSRC and PageScope Net Care device Manager) to seven sites during an initial pilot test that lasted approximately two months. Following this and completion of the roll-out, users were trained by Konica Minolta specialists. Konica Minolta then developed a microsite for MOL users, containing information about the specific hardware installed on-site as well as personalised quick guides and an FAQ section too. Some custom, security-related settings were also included in the microsite (for example, PIN code generator, ID Card activation guide, etc.).

OPS Manage MOL is assisted with professional service, in compliance with the agreed and signed service management (SM) contract. Apart from an on-site operator supervising daily operations, hence minimising workflow interruption, MOL is also assisted through CS Remote Care combined with the Konica Minolta Mobile Technician System option in order to ensure the shortest reaction time as well as first-fix possibility. eCon is another software solution that enables MOL to reduce overall communication costs, as it allows routine tasks such as ordering consumables and servicing to be done online.
