Field day wrap-up, highlights and new products Ben White

Josh Giumelli

FOR KONDININ GROUP

If you didn’t make it to a single field day this year don’t despair, in this report Farming Ahead brings the field day news to you! Avoiding the sock salesman and missing the lifestyle pavilion Josh and Ben scouted for all that was new or interesting in farm machinery and equipment. Sit back and let the tireless machinery team take you there. All quoted prices are GST inclusive.

POWERED LUBRICATION OPTIONS Greasing machinery can be a tiresome job if greasing points are difficult to access or require significant volumes of grease. Powered options offer one-handed operation and were on display from two grease gun manufacturers, Alemlube and Macnaught.

Tracking well: Saving readers the legwork of field day attendance, the Kondinin Group machinery team, researched and photographed 50 pieces of new or notable machinery, including the imposing Claas Lexion 750 harvester sitting on tracks at Dowerin Machinery Field Days, Western Australia.

Alemlube also offers battery-powered grease guns with two options on show at recent field days.

Macnaughts, BG100 battery-powered grease gun for bulk and cartridge grease. Priced at about $600, the Macnaught unit comes equipped with a spare 1300 milliamp hour, 12 volt battery and a one-hour fast charger in a carry case. Pumping out about 100 grams per minute, a fully-charged battery can pump out three 450g cartridges at 34,500 kilopascals before recharging.

30 Farming Ahead October 2010 No. 225 www.farmingahead.com.au

On the right, the Alemlube EL series 18V cordless grease gun, pumping out 80g/min and can handle four cartridges before recharging is required on a 75-minute fast charger. Field day price $795 and $395 respectively.

Price: $600 CONTACT

The 870AN grease gun, on the left, is powered by a 14.4 volt battery and delivers 140 grams per minute. Weighing in at 3.2 kilograms, the 670AN comes with a one-hour fast charger, spare battery, long grease gun flex hose, heavy duty coupler and plastic carry case. Recharging is required after eight 450g cartridges.

Gason’s Production Planning Incentive Program We are currently forward planning production of our machinery leading up to the coming season. The excellent seasonal conditions over much of Australia’s grain belt, higher prices and the introduction of new implements to our range has led to an increase in demand with the result that our order book is filling fast. To enable us to met demand we must maximise our production capacity and we are encouraging our customers to place orders for new machinery early to enable us to schedule deliveries before the season commences. To encourage early ordering we have introduced Gason’s Production Planning Incentives program. Incentives of up to $30,000 are available on some models of Gason Para Maxx, HydraTILL and ScariTILL Planters and Gason Air Seeders. We have also included Gason Fertiliser Spreaders in this program. Incentives are available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and the level of incentives will reduce each month as our order book fills. Your dealer has details and we suggest you contact them as soon as possible to maximise your premium. Gason’s Production Planning Incentives program will cease on November 30th 2010 or before, should our order book be filled before that date. We note that this program will not be extended after that time. Please contact your Gason dealer as soon as possible to maximise your Gason Production Planning Incentive, or phone Gason’s at the number below.

HARVESTAIRE CAB-CONTROLLED ADJUSTABLE LOUVRE SIEVE ACTUATOR A common feature on new harvesters, in-cab sieve adjustment is now available for older harvesters using retro-fit kits. Sieve adjustment is critical in minimising machine losses and maintaining grain quality. Electronic adjustment from the cabin reduces the risk of injury or the necessity to perform gymnast-like manoeuvres to change sieve settings.

The retro-kits include top-chaffer and bottom shoe sieve actuators, a cabmounted controller and a wiring loom. Settings can be adjusted and saved using the controller which features an LCD display (right). One of the default settings is a clean-out setting which adjusts sieves to the maximum opening

angle for a programmed time before returning to their original position. Price: About $5060 CONTACT

MOBILE HAY STACKER FROM ROLY PEARCE Entrepreneur and inventor Roly Pearce has developed a mobile large square hay bale stacker. Built around older model trucks that have been significantly modified, the hay bale stacker is impressive to watch as it picks up bales at the front of the truck before hoisting them over the cabin to slide down, before coming to rest on the sloped ramp stack on the back of the truck. After a full truck load is collected, the driver can proceed to the stack and tilt the ramp up to unload. The top bale is offset slightly to maintain stack integrity for the next truckload. According to Josh and Ben, with impressive hydraulics and electronics incorporated in the design, Roly’s invention was the most impressive seen at the field days. CONTACT

AUSPLOW W-SERIES SEEDING SYSTEM One of the most commanding pieces of equipment on show at Dowerin was the 24.4 metre wide Ausplow seeder and air cart. With an indicative cost of about $750,000, the Ausplow W-series was of imposing construction. The model on display was a prototype with a lengthy 400 millimetre SHS draw-bar originally designed to pull a 30.5m wide (90 tine) machine. The length of the drawbar permits the wings to be folded forward and in, for transport. Production models will see the drawbar section come back to 350mm SHS for 24.4m wide operation. The unit on show carried 75 DBS units and rolled on sixteen super single 386–65R22.5 tyres. Product delivery to the bar comes via the specially built, 22,000 litre, five-tank seed cart with liquid delivery option carrying its own Yanmar 4TNE84T turbocharged engine to drive the hydraulics for the fan and pumps.
