When purchasing a home, one of the most important factors to consider is neighborhood school quality. Home values increase when they are near quality schools, so savvy buyers will typically search for properties near highly-ranked public schools in order to build long-term equity. Fenton has been named third on the list of top places for families to live in the U.S., based on quality of schools as well as home prices, according to HomeUnion Research Services. For companies looking to expand, areas like Fenton offer a high quality of life with a low cost of living for employers and employees alike. Located within the St. Louis metropolitan area, the city of Fenton has access to the services and advantages provided by the larger metro areas. Thank you to all of the businesses, organizations, city departments, governing bodies, elected officials, and others for all that you do to help make Fenton a great place in which to live, work and play!

St. Louis County Police Warn of Common Scams There are many forms of scams going around and it would be hard to list all of them and their varieties. Most situations create a sense of urgency that make the victim feel the need to act swiftly. Here’s a list of scams you might see or hear:  You might receive a call stating your utility

bill is delinquent and asking for a credit card number to prevent service from being shut off. Do not send large sums of money without verifying the information first. Call your utility company directly and verify the information from your account. Most utility companies will send an advanced notice of disconnection by mail.

 A caller might claim to be a family member,

often a grandchild, who is in trouble and needs money right away. Common claims are an arrest where bond money is needed, or money needed to replace a missing passport for a family member out of the country. If this happens, contact another family member and ask if this person is out of the country or in jail. Call their bluff. Ask them a question that only close family would know, like the name of a family pet.

 The caller claims suspicious activity on a

credit card and that a Social Security and credit card number is needed to unlock the account. Tell the caller you will call them right back after you call the credit card company to verify this information. Scammers don’t want this and you will never hear from them again!

 Be savvy when selling items through sites

like Craigslist, especially when buyers are unable to meet in person. Often, buyers will mail a check/money order for a large amount and “realize” they paid too much, claiming an accounting error. They will ask for the funds to be deposited and the overage wired back, sometimes even requesting that a money be kept by the seller for any inconvenience. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! If a fraudulent check deposits and the funds are withdrawn before it clears, you will be responsible for replacing all of that money back to the bank.

If you are ever unsure or confused about a situation, feel free call your friendly local St. Louis County Police Precinct and they would love to help you stay safe!
