MoDOT Closes Eastern Outer Road Connection to Route 141

Delmar Gardens of Meramec Valley presents‌

Information taken from an article provided by Bob Boles of SCORE St. Louis After working hard to make your website easier to find in online searches, the last thing you want is to drive visitors away because of a poor user experience after they’ve arrived. “Good design, usability, and user experience are more important than ever in website development,” shares SCORE mentor and technology professional, Matthew Krieger. Here are two basic things you can do to help give your website visitors a positive experience:

►PAY ATTENTION TO LOADING SPEED OF YOUR WEB PAGES Findings recently released by Akamai Technologies, Inc. revealed that nearly half of Internet users expect website pages to load in less than two seconds and 40 percent are likely to abandon a page if it doesn’t load within 3 seconds. If your website pages load slowly for visitors, your business certainly could be missing out on potential sales—that could hurt your bottom line. According to Krieger, “Page load time and, perhaps more importantly, page responsiveness are very important to visitor perception and can ultimately impact engagement. Additionally, Google considers page performance in their ranking algorithm. There’s a balance to be struck between the desire to include advertisements, analytics mechanisms, and other page widgets (all of which can benefit the business) and the necessity of creating a fast site and a good experience for the user.”

►BE DIRECT AND CLEAR WITH YOUR WEB PAGE CONTENT Based on some studies on visits to the average web page, users have time to read at most 28% of the words during an average visit; 20% is more likely. To help make sure your readers are taking away what you want them to know about your company, products, and services, you need to get to the point. They don’t have time to sift through endless blocks of text or waste time on irrelevant content. Make it easy for readers to find what they want by breaking text into sections with clearly defined headings/subheadings. Also, give your web page text some white space to make it less cluttered and easier for visitors to read. “A website’s information architecture—the art and science of structuring and presenting digital information to achieve good usability—is important to consider when developing your content. Furthermore, the need for a clear and focused message is greater than ever,” explains Krieger. “Given the overwhelming amount of digital content competing for people’s time, delivering value quickly should be a focus.”

Good News

Thank You...

DEAF, Inc. and a team of national partners led by University of Texas and Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk have been awarded a $20 million, 5-year federal grant to establish the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s sporting clay event: sponsors, participants, donors, volunteers - you know who you are! (see pg. 2)

SSM Health St. Clare Hospital has been designated a Level 1 Time Critical Diagnosis (TCD) Stroke Center by the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services, making St. Clare one of only twelve Level 1 centers in the Missouri and one of six in the St. Louis region. The Level 1 designation recognizes St. Clare’s team of experts for assessing and treating the most complex stroke patients. According to the Missouri guidelines, a Level 1 Stroke Center is “a receiving center staffed and equipped to provide total care for every aspect of stroke care, including care for those patients with complications that also functions as a resource center for the hospitals within that region.” Will and Amber Hanke, the father-daughter team at Red Canoe Media, were selected as one of Small Business Monthly’s 2016 “Future 50” companies. Companies on this list are the leading, privately-held companies to watch, because they are strong contributors to regional business growth.

Thank you to all who attended the inaugural Southwest Regional Economic Summit and to all of the sponsors and panelists who made this event possible, including Chamber Members: Kadean Construction Co., SSM Health St. Clare Hospital, and Express Employment Professionals! Thank you to those who volunteered to assist the Fenton Chamber Staff at Delmar Gardens’ Veterans Day event: Deb Bokamper - Ageless Design, Karen Sullivan - Essential Spa Solutions, Marty Wilder - State Farm Insurance, and Darlys Preslar Thank you to the November Luncheon sponsor SSM Health St. Clare Hospital; as part of their lunch contribution as a sponsor, St. Clare footed the bill for the catering!
