Dear Chamber Members: Spring is finally starting to near and the Chamber is blossoming! Membership is at it’s highest; we are at almost 500 members and continuing to going strong, and we have many great projects/ programs going on right now at the Chamber! The STEM Summit was on March 12th and multiple people worked very hard to produce this event; look for an event recap and photos in next month’s newsletter. Next up: Dinner Auction. This annual event will be here before we know it! We are in a major push right now to bring in any last-minute or outstanding donations and to register those who would like to attend the event! Tickets are $50/person or $450/table of 10; this “early bird” pricing is only available until March 21st so purchase your tickets today! Not only is this one of the Chamber’s major fundraisers that drives both our operations budget and scholarship fund, but the Auction is a perfect time to form new business and personal relationships while strengthening existing ones. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far and a huge thank you to the auction committee for the hard work they have put in so far with the planning of this event. Finally, just around the corner is the highly-successful Celebrate Fenton! Business and Community Fair, planned for Wednesday, May 28th at Rockwood Summit High School. The registration form is in the newsletter and we are currently looking for sponsors and vendors. If you have never had a booth or attended this event, it is definitely a tool that the Chamber offers to help you obtain your business goals for the year! It is always a well-attended event by the community and we look forward to a great showing of support by our members. As the first quarter of the year comes to an end, this is the perfect time to evaluate the track you are on when it comes to obtaining your business goals for the year. Specifically, examine how you are utilizing your Chamber membership. This year we have implemented the “Benefit of the Month” project in order to highlight all of the benefits that the Chamber offers to add value to your membership and help you succeed in business. The benefit we are highlighting for March is your Online Directory Listing. With over 3,000 hits to our website in the month of February, your listing can be a very key tool in connecting potential customers with you. It is certainly worth the time is may take to make sure the Online Directory is working for you. The “Find it in Fenton First” campaign is in full swing! Our goal with this campaign is to bring awareness to the community and to our members about the importance of supporting Fenton businesses and keeping your money within the local economy. We asked everyone to pledge their support by bring back an additional 10% of your spending back to Fenton and specifically to Chamber members. It is not too late to pledge you support, just contact the Chamber Office and a staff member will assist you, making sure that you receive your door decal and key tag so that you can be recognized as a supporter. A list of those who have taken the pledge can be found on the front page! Remember that the Chamber always has your back so Find it in Fenton First!!! Make sure the online directory is working for you! The Fenton Chamber wants to ensure that all of our members make the most of their Chamber membership investment. As an inclusion of your annual investment, you receive an Online Directory Listing via the Chamber website. Visitors to the Directory have the ability to search by keyword(s), by category, or by company name. Check your Directory Listing via the Chamber Website - www.fentonmochamber.com and ask yourself the following:
Is it accurate and up-to-date? (you may want to check spelling, punctuation, etc.)
You may have some work to do… Did you know??? You can access your company’s listing through Chamber Nation (remember January’s benefit) and make any necessary changes… at any time!
Do I have the representative(s) listed that I want people reaching out to? Am I listed in the most appropriate category(ies) for visitors to find me? Is there a map link showing my location? If so, is it correct? If no, do I want that? Try entering keywords as if searching for your business - Did you find it?
Do I have a “Special Offer” linked to my listing? If yes, is it up-to-date? If no, is that something I want?
To add an additional company contact or to include a “Special Offer” linked to your listing, please contact the Chamber Office by calling (636) 717-0200 and a staff member will assist you in doing this!

UniGroup President Announces Plans Richard H. McClure has announced plans to leave the company in early 2015. “My wife, Sharon, and I have been thinking about our life’s journey for some time and where the future might take us. If the time was right, we planned to move to the next stage of my life and career around the age of 60” said McClure. “UniGroup is well positioned for future growth, enjoying market leading positions in the segments in which we compete, innovative technology, and a very strong management team,” said McClure. “This is the right time for me personally to make a transition. Sharon and I have a sense that we will land in one or more new roles. We don’t know what that looks like, but as we pray and think about the future, we want to be available to tackle new challenges at a time in our lives when we have energy and passion for a variety of causes,” McClure said. UniGroup Chairman, H. Daniel McCollister said, “We are very grateful for Rich’s service to our customers, our agents and our Shareholders. Rich has worked with the board leadership over the past several years to establish a robust succession planning process. We thank him for giving us a year’s notice prior to his departure, which provides ample time for the board to implement our plan in which we will select a new UniGroup president.” McClure joined UniGroup in 1995 after a career in the public policy arena during which he served governors in two states. McClure was named president of UniGroup in 2002.

Financial “Spring Cleaning” Can Brighten Your Investment Picture The days are getting longer and warmer — a sure indication of the arrival of spring. Another sign of the season may be the urge you get to do some spring cleaning. But you might not have realized that some of the same spring-cleaning techniques that can be used on your home can also apply to your investments and your overall financial strategy. Here are a few ideas to consider:
GET RID OF “CLUTTER”: As you do your spring
cleaning, you may well find some clutter—a bunch of items you no longer need. As an investor, you might look at your portfolio and also find “clutter” in the form of investments that are no longer appropriate for your objectives. For example, perhaps some of them are virtual duplicates of other investments that you own, thereby diminishing your potential for diversification. Or maybe some investments are now too risky for your needs. In any case, you may be better off rebalancing your portfolio.
GET ORGANIZED: As you clean your home, you might
find ways to organize your belongings and furniture more efficiently. And you may also be able to organize your investments more effectively. One possibility: Consider consolidating your investment accounts with one provider. If you have an IRA here, another one there and some other investments scattered about, you may be paying more in fees and commissions than is necessary. By consolidating these investments, you might save money and paperwork — and more importantly, you may find it easier, with all your investments under one “roof,” to follow a single, unified investment strategy.
have developed some “cracks” or “chips.” Specifically, has your life insurance kept up with changes in your family situation? Events such as marriage, remarriage, or the arrival of a new child can all trigger the need to review your life insurance. You’ll also want to make sure you have adequate disability insurance. Consult with a financial professional for information on appropriate protection vehicles.
DO SOME “DUSTING”: As part of your spring cleaning, you may need to dust furniture, shelves and other surfaces in your home. And if you’ve been investing for a long time, you may need to metaphorically “dust off” your financial strategy to “freshen it up” to reflect changes in your life. To cite one possibility, as you get close to retirement, you may need to shift some — but certainly not all — of your growth-oriented investments into income-producing ones. But you may also need to review and revise your financial strategy at other points in your life, such as when you begin saving for your children’s college education.
SEAL “CRACKS”: Over time, the grout between your
kitchen or bathroom tiles can crack, so you’ll need to re-grout to protect your flooring. And you may find that, in looking at your overall financial strategy, your “protection” component —primarily in the form of insurance— might
