A New Atlantic City? A new casino, a new slogan (“Do AC”), a new tourism district, and what looks like a new path for the East Coast’s gambling Mecca. After years of waiting, the new Revel Hotel and Casino is open. Revel may be the spark that starts a new fire in Atlantic City. I would expect that the new casino will pull huge crowds to the city and reignite their passion for all the city has to offer. The Revel is an enormous entertainment complex located right next to Atlantic City’s Boardwalk over-looking the ocean. It seems Revel has every intention of exploiting the “wow factor” with huge headline acts coming in early and strong. Beyoncé is scheduled for three dates, May 25, 26, and 27, followed by Sugarland in June. With new bars, nightclubs, a variety of restaurants, an in/out swimming pool, roof-top gardens and more, Revel may place pleasurable amenities on even footing with gaming. For me, the many choices and distractions provide a very welcome change from normal day to day life. Is that not the role of such a fantasy destination? Atlantic City provides the escape from everyday life with lights and music, fine dining and clubbing, big name entertainment and ocean views, plus the added bonus of being so close that we can go as often as we want without a TSA pat-down. Many of us enjoy the glamour and decadence portrayed by Hollywood in “Boardwalk Empire” or virtually any James Bond film as he beats the house in Monte Carlo’s best casinos. Live that glamour now. Let life imitate art, put on your best gown or suit, pull up out front, toss the valet your key, make your grand entrance into this palace, and enjoy all it has to offer. Story by Chuck Knutson

Beer CraZy by Contributing Writer, Nick Gaudio This week’s beer is Allagash White. From Portland, Maine, this Belgian Witbier is one of the best of its category for domestically brewed beer. It pours a cloudy yellow, due to the unfiltered wheat, with a white, foamy head. It has an extremely drinkable sweet citrus, clove, and coriander flavor that goes down just as smoothly as it hits the tongue. For those unaccustomed to unfiltered wheat beer, do not shy away from Allagash because of the cloudiness. On a warm day, one of these served with a lemon wedge can be the most refreshing beverage choice.
