Upon our arrival, we caught a cab that took us to our hotel close to the U.S. Capitol. We had arranged to have dinner with Representative Larry Kissell, whose office had made all the arrangements for our tours the next day. Congressman Kissell is a member of the First Baptist Church, Biscoe, which I served as pastor from 1974 to 1981. Beginning in those days, our two families have been close friends through the years. The time had come for us to visit his office, meet his staff, and have fellowship with him.

All of our touring took place on Thursday. We couldn’t begin to do it all, but we did a lot. Our day began with a tour of the White House. We have good reason to be proud of that beautiful home. Though we didn’t see any of the First Family, they were at home that day. In the afternoon, we toured the Capitol. Prior to that, Representative Kissell took us into the House Chamber where the vote to help small businesses was in progress.

My strong love for Washington, D. C. began in the 50's, when my uncle was pastor of Tacoma Park Baptist Church in that great city. My family would visit his family, when their two boys, my brother and I would take the trolley downtown to see all the sights. The four boys were close in age, so we were more like brothers than cousins. I have wonderful memories of those days. On Wednesday, April 18, Betty and I boarded the Amtrak Carolinian headed for D. C. Amtrak is an experience in itself. The beauty of it is that you avoid traffic on I-95, and Washington traffic congestion. Also, it is nice to get up and walk around from time to time.

Amtrak brought us safely home to Raleigh on Thursday afternoon--right on time. Now, we savor the wonderful memories, and look forward to a return at some future time. We rejoice that one of our own, John Parrish, was included in the final Flight of Honor on that Wednesday. He, too, made memories to treasure from now on. May is our final month to serve as your Pastor in the Interim. What a joy it has been! We join you in anticipating the coming of Rev. Trent and Susan

Hearing Devices Now Available Knightdale Baptist Church now has personal amplifiers available to individuals who have hearing difficulties. These devices will not help those with nerve deafness, but may help a significant number of persons attending our church. Devices can be picked up from Sam Maise in the Conference

Room each Sunday before Sunday School or the worship service. Devices are returned to a basket in the Conference Room before worship or to a basket in the vestibule after worship. The church will maintain these devices by supplying the batteries and cleaning. Each device is numbered so that we

can detect those that may malfunction and need replacement. Should the device malfunction while you are using it please let us know by: 1) Tearing off the “Welcome Guest” slip in your bulletin, 2) Make a note on the slip as to the problem and, 3) Wrap it around the device before turning it in.

Circle, etc. Come share with us! If you would like to show posters, projects, or even sing a song - come on and share! We will begin Missions Night

Eight Days of Hope From May 26th-June 2nd Eight Days of Hope will be helping 285+ homeowners of New Bern, (Pamlico County) NC rebuild after Hurricane Irene. They are looking for volunteers. The KBC Mission Team is planning on helping and we need you too! We know you are thinking this is Memorial Day weekend, but think about the families who have been living in tents and

FEMA trailers since Irene hit this past August. And FEMA has instructed the homeowners they will be taking back the trailers at the end of May so they can prepare them for the next disaster. We will be leaving late Friday, May 25th and returning Monday, May 28th. We will be doing construction work, debris clean up, etc. The cost

is $30.00 per person/$100.00 per family (covers gas (bus) and donation to Eight Days of Hope). Please see Robin Farrington for more information or to get registered by May 10th. The trip will also be discussed at the next Mission Team meeting on Tuesday, May 1st at 7:00 pm in the Conference Room.

Stop Hunger Now KBC will be hosting a packaging event soon for Stop Hunger Now. Information on this event was placed in each of the Sunday School classrooms. The organization provides small meal packages to support school feeding programs and crisis relief around the world. They

provide all the necessary material. We just need to provide the volunteers and a small cost of 25 cents per meal. To get started in organizing our packaging event we had to set a goal for the number of meals we will pack and the minimum is 10,000. So starting Sunday,

April 29th we will begin our “Quarter Drive for Hunger.” KBC Kids vs. KBC Adults Bring your quarters to church and place them in the appropriate container and let’s watch whose jug gets filled first! Will it be KBC Kids or KBC Adults?

Besides the WW II monument they visited the Iwo Jima memorial and the tomb of the unknown soldier.
