2012 2012 a monthly newsletter of Knightdale Baptist Church

Upon leaving home in Tar Heel to my freshman dorm at Campbell University in the fall of 2001, my mom gave me a framed popular scripture passage that is often quoted to provide a sense of reassurance for new things. In Jeremiah 29, scripture tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” A new beginning carries feelings of excitement and enthusiasm because it is just that, new. New opportunities. New possibilities. The chance to see the wonderful blessings and new experiences God is preparing for us all. We look forward to the future God has planned for us with excitement, enthusiasm and, most importantly, hope. This is just the beginning of a new chapter in the rich history of Knightdale Baptist Church. During my last visit, my sermon was entitled “Just the Beginning.” When I chose that title, while it fit with the topic, it was meant to evoke that sense of new horizons and new possibilities. Coming on as your new pastor has hopefully instilled you with some measure of excitement and enthusiasm. I deeply appreciate the road that has been created by Dr. Charles Dorman and Rev. Tom Bodkin. They have surely left some big shoes to fill, and I hope that in the coming months (and years) we will continue to create pathways for new experiences as God moves in our individual lives and corporate life as Knightdale Baptist Church. This is just the beginning of great blessings God surely has in store for us. On behalf of my wife Susan and myself, we’re both delighted to join your fellowship community. This has been a lengthy process, and now the time has finally arrived. Under the guidance of our Lord, the Pastor Search Committee worked hard to make this relationship happen. I look forward to getting to know each of you better as I begin my work as your pastor. It may take some time to put all the names and faces together, but I’ll get there. I promise. Of course, a pastor’s schedule is usually dictated by the needs at the time, but I will work to keep office hours during the week should you need to contact me. I’ll keep office hours Monday through Thursday should you like to schedule an appointment. The best time to reach me during the week will primarily be during the morning. If you would like a home visit, I will be glad to accommodate. Please, feel free to let me know if you’d like for me to stop by and what time works best for you. An emergency contact number will be established soon and will be published for your convenience. This is just the beginning of wonderful new relationships. With two new staff members joining the ministry team at KBC, this is certainly an exciting time in the life of our church. I look forward to joining those ministers already in place as we work together with you to proclaim the gospel of our Lord in our church and community. As God has seen fit to join with us in personal relationship, God also looks to the potential within us to

Words of Sincere Thanks From Your Pastor in the Interim I don't know where the time went! These three months have passed so very quickly. Paul said it so well in his letter to the Philippians: "I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now..." Philippians 1:3-5 NIV

Betty and I have enjoyed every day that we have shared -- both with you and the staff of this great church. Hal and Patty have been especially helpful and cooperative. Your gracious hospitality, warm spirit, deep faith and faithful attendance have all been a blessing to us. Truly, you have made us a part of your family of faith and we will never forget that. Thank you so much for the treasured memories

that are now ours. We rejoice with you in the coming of Rev. Trent and Susan Sessoms. You will love them and they will love you. Together, you will share a great ministry -- in Knightdale and beyond. I am confident that there are some great years ahead for this church. We will continue to pray for all of you. Grace and Peace, Tom Bodkin

Please note: If for some reason you are not available to help on the day that you volunteered to work, we ask that you please don’t forget to find a replacement for yourself so there is adequate coverage during the worship service. Also, if you have a change in the schedule for the children’s nursery or children’s church, please contact the monthly coordinator so that the change can be made prior to the printing of the worship bulletin. However, any permanent changes in the schedule should continue to be handled by the lead coordinator.

Thank you for all your help.

Note From the Finance Committee Please keep our church finances in your prayers. For the past 5 months we have been running a deficit of approximately $3,000.00 per month. As we move forward with two new pastoral staff

members our financial demands will be much greater. Please search your heart and give accordingly.
