HEY THERE! My name is Katie Neighbour! Design has always been a passion of mine, and I have always loved creating things. Here you will find some work of mine that express residential, commercial and retail interior spaces. I have loved learning about these design styles, and I am excited to continue to expand my design knowledge. I have also found a joy for creating things by hand for people to enjoy in their homes. Here you will also find calligraphy, illustrations, woodworking designs, and hand-lettering designs. Enjoy!

PROJECT For this project, I was assigned a flagship store located in Nashville, Tennessee named “ABLE,” or short for “FASHIONABLE.” After completing research about the background of this company, I found out that their main goal was to provide jobs for women who have experienced in the past, and are “ABLE” to do anything. Their number one philosophy is that if more jobs were created, that would put an end to poverty. With only one actual store in the USA, I researched the style that was within it and found it to be extremely simple. That is what I wanted to portray as my concept for this site in East Village Des Moines as well. Showcasing hand-made items created by women in third world countries and the US in need of jobs, this environment displays not only the products for sale, but also tells a story on how they were made by displaying photos from the process.

NEWMAN RESIDENCE RESIDENTIAL DESIGN
PROJECT This project consisted of recieving client information, and interpreting it into a luxury home for a family of four. I chose to incorporate a concept of preservation as the community in which the home was located valued the environment and restoration of all things. Preservation is my area of interest for all designs, so I wanted to create a floorplan that honored traditional home styles , and used salvaged architectural elements to make this home appear respectable to nature, architecture and history. This home reflects my personal design style, as well as luxurious features that make a home more comfortable to live in. Preservation of historical items such as furniture, architectural detail, decorations and materials hold a special place in my heart to incorporate in as many designs as I can. Relating to the setting of this home in Serenbe, Georgia, sustainable and green design is extremely important to the environment.

CAFE R E N OVAT I O N R E S TA U R A N T D E S I G N
PROJECT The main goal for this project was to renovate what was Morrill Hall on Iowa State University’s campus, and change it into a cafe for students, faculty and families. I wanted everyone who enters the cafe to feel welcomed and at home. I named it “The Backyard Cafe,” because being at home is where people are the most comfortable. Students can come to get homework done, and also enjoy a concert at night. Faculty can have private meetings while enjoying lunch and coffee. The color scheme is nutral and consists of warm tones to create a calm atmosphere for busy students and campus employeees.

OTHER WORK CALLIGRAPHY WOODWORKING HAND-LETTERING GRAPHICS
WORK For my whole entire life, I have enjoyed design and creating things with my hands. Although interior design is a strong passion of mine, it brings me great joy to make things for people to enjoy in their homes. I began doing calligraphy as a hobby that evolved into an amazing joy. Hand-lettering and illustrations followed as I became extremely interested in graphic design mechanisms. After coming across wood designs, I knew that it was something I wanted to try. I had previously been in a wood shop class that gave me knowledge on how to use specific materials. I began designing geometric pieces inspired by artists doing similar designs. This, along with calligraphy, has become a local business that I call “The Good Neigbour.
