In my first topics studio experience, our quarter long project was to address the fairly new problem of the CLA or “pointy� building at Cal Poly Pomona. It was built on top of a fault line and other problems left it structurally unsafe, as well as lead to water damage from leakage. This was also a Pre-Cast Concrete spesific class and we were to use it as our main material and structure. We were sponsored by Clark Pacific and received help from them as well as from engineers from the Course Lab in Perris, CA. Our program consisted of classrooms, administration, housing, entertainment, and a large bicycle facility that would repair, store and clean bikes. Other support program also went into the overall project. This was a group project and I worked with my partner to create a new proposal for the existing CLA building. We decided to tear down the original building and start fresh. My main objective was to work on the floor plans and structure. In the end we did not win, however a top three were chosen in this competition.
