PORTAL TO THE CITY

The concept of the project is that the center can be a portal or gate for homeless people from harsh environment to our community where they can visit, stay, clean themselves, have meals, working, being educated, and being involved in a community. There is a outdoor park and indoor courtyard, dinning area, general and dental medical center, general, legal, financial counseling office, hair salon, private shower booth, laundry room, cooking and carpentry studio, library, computer lab, farming class, urban farm, and residential unit.

DYNAMIC STUDIO Client : imaginary client, which is very dark childhood background, character designer for a comic book. The house is connected to surrounding environments. It has a lot of ironical characteristics at the same time they should have harmony in terms of material usages. Working and s l e e p i n g space should be the focal point of the house and rest of needs can be minimal. Since the client is a character concept designer, the house should reflect his characteristics.

MOMENTO HOTEL Target Client : actors, actress, photographers, writers, directors, and local people who are willing to spend time as historical moment in the city. The main theme of the hotel is recalling the history and concept of theatre, movies, photographs and plays. One choice leads to a result and the other side of the choice can lead to a dierent result. The architecture has the beginning and continuous ending, expressing linear aspect of history. Historical moments are the most important.

CAN HOUSES

The most important feature of the design is affordability and how units can be placed in the allotted space of the site. So, the design plays with numbers. The size of the actual site that can be used is 20,000sqft for 100 people. A unit, which can be placed in that 20,000sqft, has 400sqft gross space, and 240sqft actual usable space. There are 4 options of each gross space dimension, which is 20’x20’, 25’x16’, 40’x10’, or 8’x50’. Therefore, those rectangular shape options can be put together sharing one point to show the most common size of the space, which is 8’x20’. But then, 8’x20’ is 160sqft net space which is too small for 2 people or 1 person to live. So, the 8’x50’ option can be removed from those options. This is because that dimension is too narrow and long for residential usage. The most common flexible space size is 20’x10’. It fits in every possible rectangular gross space in the site.

building material and structure The outside material is mainly steel. It looks like shipping container from the outside but the size can be varied. Also, it can have color options for exterior, interior and floor. Exterior options are tan, blue, white, green, brown, red, or gray. Interior wall options are beige, Calcutta, or gray. Interior floor option is sesame, nutmeg, or ebony. It can be constructed by a company called Speedspace. www.speedspace.org

HABITAT

Client : myself taking photographs for the period

The small temporary house, which is for myself for one year, can be constructed, destructed, and disposed by one person. The concept of the house is function with usage of the environmental aspects, lake, wind, snow, rain, soil, and etc.

site - Presquile Provincial Park Spring-March, April, May Summer- June, July, August Fall- September, October, November Winter- December, January, February

Weather aspects Rain- So much in May and September(when season changing period more rain) Wind- the direction is regular The speed in Spring and Winter time is faster than other seasons Human response Seasons are evenly stayed(3 months long) Mean temperature range is fine for body min is -8.1 mean max is 26.1 Extreme temperature range is too different min-21.5 max 32.9 Seemed to be so much rain Humid climate Strong wind Architectural response Should be used water proof material -glass, plastic, stainless steel, etc‌ Preparation for the extreme temperature -closed shelter(less windows) Humid climate -ventilation (many windows)
