ON THE COVER Each summer, MASTERPIECE MYSTERY! presents the best British mysteries. A trio of new episodes feature David Suchet as the suave Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot. In Three Act Tragedy, a cocktail party is the scene of a crime, while in The Clocks, multiple frozen clocks factor into a murder. Poirot investigates a death at a festive event turned foul in Hallowe’en Party. Series begins airing Friday, June 24 at 9 pm

NATURE/SCIENCE/ADVENTURE

Erected by the ancient Greeks as a temple to Athena, the Parthenon has served as a church, a fortress, an ammunition dump and the model for countless banks, courthouses and museums across the world. It has been shot at, exploded, set on fire, rocked by earthquakes, looted for its magnificent sculptures and subjected to restorations that have been termed “catastrophic.” Despite so much abuse and renown as an icon of Western civilization, the question of how the Parthenon was built has been largely ignored until recently. Now, thanks to the Greek government’s $10 billion restoration program, scholars are finally probing the enigmas of its planning and construction. With unprecedented access, NOVA presents the inside story of the official restoration, which reaches far beyond the challenges and controversies of conserving one of the world’s best-known buildings. Airs Sunday, June 5 at 7 pm and Monday, June 6 at 9 pm

Through the eyes of survivors and family members, BAD BLOOD chronicles how a “miracle” treatment for hemophilia became an agent of death for 10,000 Americans. Faced with evidence that pharmaceutical companies and government regulators knew the product was contaminated with HIV and hepatitis from the 1960s through the early 1990s, they launched a powerful and inspiring fight to right the system that failed them and to make it safer for all. Airs Monday, June 13 at 8 pm

BIOGRAPHY/DOCUMENTARY/HISTORY Filmed over four years, GARBAGE DREAMS follows three teenage boys born into the trash trade and growing up in the world’s largest garbage village, a ghetto located on the outskirts of Cairo. When their community is suddenly faced with the globalization of its trade, each of the teenage boys is forced to make choices that will impact his future and the survival of his community. Airs Tuesday, June 7 at 10 pm

CLAIMING THE TITLE In 1982, a San Francisco athletic group tries to hold a “Gay Olympics,” instigating what will ultimately become a battle at the U.S. Supreme Court and a challenge over the place of gays and lesbians in American Society. The Supreme Court is widely viewed as the country’s chief defender of civil rights. Yet its longhidden struggle with demands for gay equality points to a more complicated reality. The inner workings of the Court are exposed, revealing an institution and individual justices - real people with human emotions and deeply felt assumptions - divided and in conflict.
