CIVIC & EDUCATION

FOR THE FOLLOWING EDUCATIONAL AND CIVIC PROJECTS MY RESPONSIBILITIES INVOLVED COORDINATION WITH OTHER TRADES, THE CREATION OF CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS, 3D MODELING AND PRESENTATION DRAWINGS, COLLABORATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DESIGNS, SITE VERIFICATION AND AS-BUILT DOCUMENTATION.

WAKELY ASSOCIATES INC. ARCHITECTS FEB 2007 - OCT 2012 I DEVELOPED EMERGENCY PLANS FOR THREE SCHOOL DISTRICTS, WHICH INVOLVED ANALYSIS OF THE EXISTING FACILITIES AND CALCULATING REFUGE AREA CAPACITIES.

WAKELY ASSOCIATES INC. ARCHITECTS FEB 2007 - OCT 2012 I CREATED EXISTING AND PROPOSED MASTER PLANS FOR MACOMB COUNTY MICHIGAN’S CIVIC CAMPUS IN MOUNT CLEMENS, MI. THIS ALSO INCLUDED THE DESIGN OF A PROPOSED WINTER GARDEN. MY PROPOSAL CONSISTED OF THE ADDITION OF AN ATRIUM SPACE TO AN EXISTING COURTHOUSE. AN INTERIOR CAFE SPACE WOULD STEP DOWN AND OPEN UP TO A TERRACE, OVERLOOKING A RIVER.

THE RON JONA COLLABORATIVE OCTOBER 2012 - MAY 2013 AUTO DEALERS WERE A PRIMARY CLIENT. I WAS IN CHARGE OF DEVELOPING THIS PROJECT IN COMPLIANCE WITH GENERAL MOTORS IMAGE STANDARDS. I ALSO DEVELOPED CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS AND DETAILS FOR THIS AND SIMILAR PROJECTS. THE FOLLOWING PAGES INCLUDE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS I COMPLETED FOR A MEDICAL OFFICE BUILD-OUT.

DETROIT RIVERFRONT DESIGN COMPETITION DETROIT, MI NOVEMBER 2012 A RESURGENCE OF THE DETROIT RIVERFRONT THROUGH THE LAST DECADE INSPIRED THIS DESIGN COMPETITION FOCUSED ON THE REDEVELOPMENT OF HART PLAZA AND THE NEIGHBORING USA/ CANADA TUNNEL ENTRY PLAZA. CURRENTLY ALL TUNNEL TRAFFIC ENTERS THE CITY FROM LOCAL HIGHWAYS DIRECTLY ONTO JEFFERSON AVENUE. JEFFERSON IS SEVERAL LANES WIDE AND ACTS AS A BARRIER BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE RIVERFRONT.

EXISTING CONDITIONS JEFFERSON AVENUE TRAFFIC SEPARATES DOWNTOWN DETROIT FROM THE RIVERFRONT.

DETERMINE THE APPROPRIATE SURFACE CORRIDOR TO BE 2-4 LANES, AT THE EDGE OF DOWNTOWN. THE AREA OUTLINED IN RED IS TOO WIDE FOR NORMAL PEDESTRIAN CROSSING.

MOVE ALL TUNNEL TRAFFIC BELOW GROUND.

PULL HART PLAZA OVER THE TUNNEL TRAFFIC BRINGING IT CLOSER TO THE CITY.

PROVIDE OPENINGS FOR LIGHT AND AIR MOVEMENT TO THE TUNNEL BELOW. MAINTAIN PEDESTRIAN PATHWAYS BETWEEN OPENINGS.

FACILITATE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN HART PLAZA AND EXISTING LIGHT RAIL STATIONS.

TUNNEL TRAFFIC CONTINUES BELOW HART PLAZA AND UP INTO A REJUVENATED CUSTOMS PLAZA. THE WOODWARD CORRIDOR CONTINUES THROUGH HART PLAZA AND CONVERGES WITH THE DETROIT RIVER. THE EXISTING AMPHITHEATER REMAINS BELOW GRADE AND RECEIVES A DOME ROOF. DODGE FOUNTAIN IS RELOCATED TO THE WEST END OF THE PLAZA WHICH IS SHELTERED BY THE NEW VIEWPOINT WALKWAY CREATING AN INTIMATE CAFE AREA NEAR COBO ARENA.

EDUCATION &COMMUNITY CENTER FOR MIGRANT WORKERS SOUTHWEST DETROIT 2008 THIS STUDIO PROJECT EXERCISED MY ABILITY TO INTERPOLATE OPPORTUNITIES DERIVED FROM THE EXISTING SITE. THE DIRECTIONALITY OF THE ADJACENT SERVICE DRIVE AND THE ROADWAY PROVIDED A PATTERN WHICH GUIDED ME THROUGH THE WHOLE PROJECT. THE PROGRAM REQUIRED MU LIT FUNCTIONAL EDUCATION AND MEETING SPACES, TO ALLOW FOR BOTH LEARNING AND COMMUNITY USE SPACES. IT ALSO REQUIRED SMALL PARK. HEAVY CONCRETE ELEMENTS WERE DERIVED FROM THE ADJACENT INTERNATIONAL BORDER CROSSING COMPLEX CONSISTING PRIMARILY OF CONCRETE RETAINING WALLS AND BRIDGES.

PERFORMING ARTS CENTER DETROIT, MI 2009 THIS STUDIO PROJECT FOR AN UNDERGRADUATE COURSE EXERCISED MY ABILITY TO COLLABORATE WITH OTHER DESIGNERS IN THE LAYOUT OF THE SITE. WE DECIDED TO CONTINUE THE RADIAL PARKWAY TO THE SOUTH THROUGH THE SITE, AND DEFINED THE FOOTPRINT OF EACH BUILDING BASED ON THAT PATH. THE DESIGN OF THE ACTUAL PERFORMING ARTS CENTER REMAINED AS AN INDIVIDUAL PROJECT. MY PROPOSAL FOCUSED ON THE THREE DIFFERENT THEATERS REQUIRED AND THE IMPORTANCE OF IDENTITY AND WAYFINDING IN EVENT SPACES. THIS WAS DONE BY MAKING THE SCALE OF EACH ELEMENT FOREFRONT AND EVIDENT TO THE PUBLIC.

ECOLOGIES AND TYPOLOGIES - MASTERCLASS 2011 THIS MASTERCLASS PROJECT WAS COLLABORATION FOCUSED. MYSELF AND SIX OTHER STUDENTS WORKED TOGETHER THROUGH RESEARCH AND BRAINSTORMING TO DEVELOP A NETWORK OF RESEARCH AND RECREATION IN THE GREAT LAKES. AS A GROUP WE FOCUSED ON FOUR SITES IN THE GREAT LAKES ARE. MY FOCUS WAS RECREATION IN ERIE PENNSYLVANIA. CURRENTLY THERE IS A LARGE PENINSULA DESIGNATED AS A STATE PARK. WHICH IS ACCESSED BY ROAD MILES TO THE WEST OF DOWNTOWN. HOWEVER THERE IS A NARROW CHANNEL WHICH PASSES BETWEEN THE DOWNTOWN AREA AND THE END OF THE PENINSULA. WE PROPOSED A BRIDGE WITH PROGRAMMATIC ELEMENTS TO CONNECT THE DOWNTOWN WITH THE PARK. THE BRIDGE CONTAINED RESEARCH STATIONS AND PUBLIC LEARNING CENTERS FOR THE STUDY OF LOCAL ECOLOGIES THROUGHOUT THE GREAT LAKES. I WAS INVOLVED IN RESEARCH, MAPPING, DIAGRAMING, BRAINSTORMING, GRAPHICS, AND DESIGN.

PERFORMING PLAZA PARAMETRIC DESIGN WORKSHOP SHENZHEN CHINA 2012 ANOTHER COLLABORATIVE DESIGN STUDIO. THIS ONE WAS HELD IN SHENZHEN CHINA THROUGH L&A DESIGN GROUP AND THE UNIVERSITY OF SHANGHAI. WORKING WITH A DOZEN OTHER STUDENTS WE EXPLORED VARIOUS ELEMENTS OF DISPLAY AND PERFORMANCE IN ARCHITECTURAL EVENT SPACES. WE DEVELOPED CONCEPTS THROUGH PHYSICAL AND DIGITAL MEDIA AND EXPLORED THE USE OF VARIOUS MODELING PROGRAMS AND TECHNIQUES. WE ALSO COORDINATED WITH A FASHION DESIGN PROGRAM. PROJECTING VIDEO OF OUR PARAMETRIC MODELS (MOVING PATTENS AND LINES) ONTO A FASHION SHOW. ID LIKE TO ADD THAT I SPENT THREE WEEKS TRAVELING CHINA, ATTENDED SEVERAL SEMINARS ON URBAN PLANNING AND DESIGN. AND ENJOYED MYSELF THOROUGHLY.
