Long, steel bar handles have been in vogue for the past few years, often paired with Shaker style, but trends are changing. “This year we are seeing feature walls of floor-to-ceiling units, with handleless units and flush appliances,” says Hélène. Drawers are released with the gentlest of touches and tall doors open then slide into a pocket, revealing a hidden kitchen, maintaining the illusion of a flat, wall-like bank. Colours continue the theme of ‘urban chic’, especially for contemporary kitchens with muted greys and natural whites as well as the cappuccino–latte tones. Mixed with textured wood – be it solid, veneer or even repro – the trend for two-tone kitchens continues. But Kitchensmiths’ two brand new displays show the newest moves for kitchen elegance. Deep wine smooth lacquer mixed with bookmatched laminate wood highlights some of the unique features of a Bax kitchen. “On our last trip to Germany we all fell in love with the new vibrant teal and blue tones on offer at Störmer Kitchens. So our new front display features an amazing curved island in just that,” says Hélène.
