01

The Problem … “the reason the project is important”

Currently, there is a rise of digital nomads (people who travel all around the world and

new way to live life. The first problem:

35%

digital nomads tend to feel lonely as the

majority travel alone. The second problem: there is no accommodation in Vancouver which offers both co-working and sleeping accommodations under the same roof.

Zoning … “when design becomes a jigsaw puzzle”

Test Fit: The most convenient templet and worth every second it takes to make them. AKA time savers! The spaces and places we have test fits for are for those which are unique to our project and for minimum standards to have a base for innovation.

Bubble Diagrams: The most important step before zoning. The bubble diagrams show the adjacencies between the function in the building (as a whole) and the functions within each floor

Concept … “the thing supposedly driving the design”

Concept: After completing a thorough analysis of the building we found some repeated geometries through each iteration. We then came of with the following concept statement:

Throughout the design, we will create an interactive space where digital nomads can easily connect and collaborate with one another. We will do this by creating a central gathering space which will foster relationships and ultimately, create a community.

Space planning … “the phase that never seems to end”

During the space planning phase, code reviews took place to ensure standards and safety requirements are met. Along with the final refinements of the planning.

FF+E, Materials, Sustainability … “the fun stuff”

The FF+E and materials throughout the project take into great consideration the concept for the space and the specific use in order to provide appropriate ergonomic options. In addition, sustainability approaches have been integrated throughout the project along with allowing the users to feel the comfort of home.

Lighting, RCP, Details … “the technical”

The lighting and RCP for the building took a very architectural approach as it pays tributes to the existing columns and beams. With respect to the existing architecture, beams are left exposed and columns are repeated to express natural qualities.
