With the inevitable rise in sea-level associated with climate change, comes the migration of the salt front further in-land. Saline intrusion poses a threat to coastal groundwater aquifers and compromises the fertility of farm soil.
An exploration into the chemical and fluid properties of salt water is manifested in a tiered exhibit of physical experiments.
The framework showcases the diversity of crystalline formations; hosting strings that have been suspended in a saline solution over time, and displaying the interaction of droplets with a rough surface serving as a nucleation site for crystals to agglomerate.
The model serves as an architectural prototype for the processing of a saline solution whereby salt crystals are harvested for industrial use, and remaining water is desalinated.
