GENERAL INTEREST June Apple Kitchen: Cooking Series Megan Reynolds/ June Apple Kitchen Session I: Mediterranean Tour: Food from Spain, Italy, Greece and More- Go beyond Italian pasta and Greek gyros in this class designed to take you on a tour of Mediterranean cooking. We’ll learn about the ingredients and flavors that weave common threads through many countries in the region, and discover culinary influences from less well-known cuisines. Experience smoked paprika from Spain, ground sumac from Israel, harissa from North Africa and other unique flavor combinations. Learn to cook several dishes with locally available ingredients, and sample a variety of foods from around the region. Join us for a night in the Mediterranean! Session II: Eat Local: Cooking with Food from your Local Farmer’s Market Eating local produce can be a great pleasure when you know how to prepare seasonal dishes. Local farmers produce food that is fresher and therefore full of more nutrients than the food you’ll see in grocery stores, which is bred to look good and ship well, but not necessarily taste the best. By choosing local produce, you get the freshest, healthiest, and best-tasting version of fruits and vegetables, AND it reduces energy consumption AND supports your local economy. But sometimes, especially in Northern Minnesota, it can be hard to know what to do with all those radishes, kale, kohlrabi, and cauliflower. In this class, Megan brings locally grown and currently available produce from our local Hibbing Farmer’s Market, and explores how to prepare a variety of vegetables and fruits. Learn how to walk through a market, what questions to ask, and get suggestions for preparing other seasonal vegetables. Spend an evening as a “”locavore”” and enjoy the seasonal produce our region has to offer! Sponsored by Hibbing Community Education. For more information contact Hibbing Community Education 208-0852. School Readiness

It is recommended that a child who is 3 -4 years old complete this quick and simple check. It identifies, at an early stage, possible health or learning concerns, so that children can get help before starting school. It is not a readiness test for kindergarten. If your child has been screened through Head Start, they do not have to be screened again. Hibbing Early Childhood Screenings are held 6 times during the school year. There is no charge, however appointment times are needed. Please contact the Hibbing ECFE Office (218-208-0853) for required paperwork and to schedule a screening date and time. *Please note the ECFE office is closed June-August and messages will not be returned until the 1st week in September.
