COMPUTER ART 1 This is a fne art studio class which uses digital tools as the medium for artistic expression. Fundamental aesthetic and design concepts will be covered through presentations, and through class discussions of students’ work. Students will be provided a working knowledge of the computer, software, processes, and techniques to produce digital works of art. Students will use programs such as Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator to draw, and paint with a drawing tablet along with digital collage, image manipulation and graphic design.

DIGITAL DRAWING This was one of the first projects for this class. To start this project, I found a photo of a hand and traced over it. I used the program Corel Painter to complete this project. I used layers, different pencils, and different opacities to achieve the look created. Overall, this project took quite a few days. Trying to get the shading perfect was the biggest challenge. With the shadows outside the hand and in the fingers, I was proud of the challanges I overcame with this project.

DIGITAL PAINTING

This project was done in Corel Painter. I picked out a landscape photo from the internet that I thought looked nice. I chose this picture because I liked the Autumn look to it. I thought the colors were very bright and vibrant. I then followed an online tutorial to transform the picture into an oil-like painting. The technique used in Painter was called “underpainting”. I used a brush to cover what should be transformed, and the program did the rest for me.

FILTERS This project was done in Photoshop. I took two pictures of things that I liked from the internet. I chose two pictures from the show “Supernatural”. These characters were both demons in these pictures, and I chose those specifically to make the project theme a bit creepier. Inside photoshop, I added filters and adjustments to these pictures to create these looks. I wanted a grainy look for both of them.

TECHNOPERSON

The objective of this project was to create a person with technological aspects. This project was done in Photoshop. I took stock photos from a folder on the graphics drive. I applied different filters, blending modes, and layers to this photo to create the achieved look. I added different effects around and on top of the photo to give the entire photo a grainy, smokey look. I chose to keep the entire photo in black and white-- except for the eyes. I made the conscience choice to make the eyes blue to give off a robotoic look.

DREAM PROJECT The objective of this project was to bring pictures together to create a dream-like photo. This was done in Photoshop. I used a picture of a sky as the foundation, then I added things like the hands and the birds on top. I used different blending modes, layers, and opacities to achieve this look. I made sure the birds had color to them to contrast the hands and to show light from the moon.

POP ART The goal of this project was to recreate Andy Warhol’s “Pop Art” images. The program used was Photoshop. I then used video tutorials to create these images. I used pictures of me that were taken prior to this time. I picked a picture that I felt could incorporate multiple color uses. Using layers and brushes, I was able to create a different version using different colors to achieve the Pop Art look.

NATUREMO

The purpose of this project was to create a set of pictures that were of a person with nature qualities. I used pictuers of myself that were taken prior to this project. In Photoshop, I took the nature photos and placed them over the photos of me. I then changed the blending modes and adjusted the opacities to create a semi-natural look. The rest of the photo was in black and white, however, I left the eyes colored as contrast. I used a layer mask so that the eyes and eyebrows were not included in the nature part.

DESIGN

The purpose of this project was to take pictures downtown and create a collage billboard design. The pictures I used were mainly pictures I took. Very few pictures used in here were stock photos. I added the logo and text at the bottom of the piece for the reqirement. Once inside Photoshop, I combined the pictures by using selections, layer masks, layers, blending modes, and different opacities.

The objective of this project was to create a symmetrical reflection of a photo. I found a picture that I thought looked nice to use for this project. I brought this photo into Photoshop. I flipped this picture on a different layer and blended it together. I then added a gradient layer to create the blue and pink look. I then used the dodge and burn tool to highlight and darken necessary parts.

MOVIE POSTER The purpose of this project was to create a parody movie poster in Adobe Photoshop. The goal was to use different type techiniques combined with previous work in combining photos. I chose the title “Dark Karma” after the title of my mother’s book. Since the book is a dark mystery, I chose the poster to have cold colors and ominous images. I chose a font that looked suspensful, and I flipped the ‘k’ in the title to add an extra detail to the title. I chose the names of my friends for the actors. I used the phrase “what goes around, comes around” to fit with the karma theme. I chose the date at the bottom “June 11” after the day my mom died.

GEOMETRIC DESIGN The goal of this project was to create a geometric design using Adobe Illustrator. I chose a green and red theme because it was around Christmas time when this project was created. I used different shades of red and green to fill in the triangles. I wanted the design to look like wrapping paper in the end. I used the same shades of colors, but placed them different for each line.

16  COMPUTER ART DIGITAL PORTFOLIO

CARTOON AVATAR The purpose of this project was to draw a vector-based cartoon image of myself in Adobe Illustrator. I took an old photo of me and traced vector lines over the outline of myself-- this took a few days. I then transferred the final outline image of myself over to Photoshop where I completed the red splash overlay. This highlighted the highlights and darkened the shadows of this image.

VORMATOR The purpose of this project was to use the same eight geometric shapes in Illustrator to create a bigger image. I used a gradient background to begin. I then used one of the shapes to create the green hills. I then began working on the trees, changing the colors. I included the clouds and suns to the background. I then began using the same shape to create leaves. I changed the colors and flipped the shape around to create the look of leaves falling. I kept warm colors on the lighter tree and cool colors on the darker tree.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS POSTER The objective of this project was to take an environmental issue and create an awareness poster around it. I chose the topic of globing warming to interpret. I found similar slogans about a “world on fire” and made “Protect us from a world on fire”. I changed the color of the Earth to make it look apocalyptic. I then used the liquify tool in Photoshop to made the Earth melt. I then added smoke around the Earth. I used a gradient on the above text. I then followed an online tutorial to create the “fire” text.

TYPE SPECIMEN POSTER The purpose of this project was to do research on a specific font and complete a poster design on it. This project was done in Adobe Illustrator. I chose the font “Cooper Black” because I liked the way it looked. I did the research on the font and then font a poster design that I liked. I wrote a brief history on the font and included all the characters. I then added the two letters, the title, and the creator onto the design poster.

MUSICIAN A

The purpose of this project was to use Photoshop to create a series of posters w

ite artists. For the first poster, I chose Freddie Mercury and the Queen song “I

picture of Mercury. Then I added a rainbow graident to the picture. I then add

cldued a picture of Lin-Manuel Miranda and a song from his show, Hamilton, “

TYPE QUOTE POSTER The goal of this project was to create a series of the same photo in Adobe Photoshop of a celebrity and one of their quotes. For this project, I chose Lin-Manuel Miranda and his “Love is Love...” quote from his Tony Award acceptance speech.

24  COMPUTER ART DIGITAL PORTFOLIO

I followed the online provided tutorial using layers, blending modes, gradients, and adjustments. The first photo was in the normal color, the second was in black and white, and the last was in gradient. I chose a rainbow graident for LGBTQ+ pride, considering that was what the quote was based on.

The purpose of this project was to create a geometric design using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. To begin in Illustrator, I created the outline design first. I then put it over a selected landscape photo. I chose this landscape photo from a collection of online photos. I chose this particular one because I thought there were a variety of colors I could use in the college part. I then followed the video tutorial to create the collage look. I used selections and layers to create the collage effect. I then went into Photoshop and added filters and adjustments to the photo to give it a more subtle, grainy look.

LOW POLY PROJECT The objective of this project was to recreate a photo of myself using triangle shapes. This project was done

entirely in Adobe Photoshop. I used an old picture of myself for this project that I felt had vibrant colors.

To begin, I recorded the action of selecting part of my face and adding a blur filter and stroke effects. I

then used this recorded action when selecting other parts of my face and hair. Once this was completed

for every part of the face, I turned off the effects to get rid of the black stroke on each triangle. For this

project, I used selections, layers, layer effects, and filters.
