In the death last October of Isaac Arnold, Kinkaid lost

friend, who, for

a

very

special

trustee, parent, and grandparent had been devoted to the School. Without his interest and support it is more

than 30 years

doubtful that Kinkaid could have

experienced during Mr. Arnold,

or

as

accomplished

the

growtlJ. which

it has

this time.

"Uncle Ike"

as

he

was

known to several

generations

Kinkaid children, grew up in Buffalo, N. Y. where he attended Nichols, school very much like Kinkaid. After

day engineering

of a

in chemical

graduating Polytechnic Institute, he taught for several years at The Gow School where he became concerned with the special learning problems of children. He moved to Houston in 1932 and was associated with Quintana Petroleum Corporation for more than 40 years as engineer, Secretary, Vice President, and Executive Director. Married to Agnes Louise Cullen, he had three children, all of whom attended Kinkaid. Through them and seven of his grandchildren who also attended Kinkaid, he developed a deep interest in the School, serving three terms

as

at Rensselaer

Chairman of the Board and

more

than 30 years

as an

active

Trustee.

During this time, the Arnolds contributed generously and repeatedly to the School's building program, most-notably in connection with the Science Building which they gave in association with the M. D. Anderson Foundation.

'Mr. Arnold contributed in many ways to the larger community. He Trustee of

and of Rensselaer

Baylor University Regent of the University of Houston,

a

Polytechnic Institute,

a

a

member of the State Board for

Mental Health and Mental Retardation, the President of the Board of Directors, and

was a

Alley Theatre's

board member of many civic, social, and

professional organizations. Ike had many enthusiasms and was

special

interests: He loved

Commodore of the Texas Corinthian Yacht Club; he

sailing

was a

and

Gilbert and

Sullivan buff and had

a remarkable memory for lyrics and for poetry; he developed enjoyed interesting moving pictures which he shared with our students; he loved teaching and treasured his association as mathematics instructor in the U. of Houston's naval training school during World War II; he loved the theatre and ballet, interests which he particularly

travel and

shared with his second wife, Mimi Robinson Arnold.

Perhaps we

remember him best because he

humor, gaiety, and Houston

are

common sense

to

fortunate to have been

a

brought so much good everything he touched. Kinkaid and part of his life.
