ALUMNI NEWS

Reunion on April 4 and 5. First and foremost, many thanks to our wonderful reunion cochairs, Kathy Cullen McCord, Susie Peake and Ellen Weingarten Wagnon. You all did a great job. In case you all did not hear, you have been elected unanimously to co-chair our 40th Reunion. On Friday evening, April 4, our very own Adam Ereli was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus. Classmates attending the ceremony to support our diplomat extraordinaire included Kevin Lewis, David Marchand, Elizabeth Choate, Jamie Walter, Ellen Weingarten Wagnon, Paula Mitchell Welder, Daphne Brown-Pradia, Steven Arnold and Alice Berry. Adam boarded a jet the next morning headed for the Middle East presumably to help fix the many problems our country juggles on a daily basis – THANK YOU, ADAM!! On Saturday evening, April 5, at El Tiempo we had our class party. Everyone attending looked great. If we did not know better, we would have thought this was our 20th Reunion. Attendance was 20+ with some great spouses who once again endured tales of how fun “it was”! Notable classmates MIA included (i) our Distinguished Alumnus who rumor has it had to return to the Middle East on a top-secret assignment to negotiate a peace treaty of some kind or resolve some major diplomatic crises and (ii) Susie Peake who word has it “better dealed” us for some party for some former US president who lives in Houston (Susie, does H.W. really rate higher than your beloved classmates? J). Saturday night attendees included (in addition to all the Friday attendees noted above) Lea Weingarten Fastow, JD Grisebaum, Heather Mackay Tripodo, Christa Hawkins Hash, Evans Attwell, Harry Sturges and Jimmy Goettee. Special shout outs to (i) Elizabeth Choate for all the dance moves demonstrated, and (ii) Paula Mitchell Welder, David Marchand and Jamie Walter for driving in from San Antonio, Dallas and Tyler, respectively, for the reunion festivities thus winning the “farthest away” awards. For those of you who did not make it, you missed a wonderful evening (at least the parts that your dedicated class correspondents can remember). Speaking of not remembering, please forgive us if, in the above notes, we (i) did not remember your married name, (ii) misspelled any part of your name or (iii) did not mention you as an actual attendee. You know what they say about brain cell (and memory) loss as you get older. Please mark your calendars now for our 40th Reunion in April 2019 and plan to attend. We want 100% attendance (less than 20% is embarrassing). In addition, none of us are getting any younger, and you just never know when…... Have a great, safe summer; take care; and keep us posted on any updates you all have on anything you care to pass along (we really need copy of any kind for this great column). Our best.

Waverly White Gage Houston, Texas wwgage@gmail.com The graduates of the Kinkaid Class of 1982 are turning 50 this year, or as my son likes to say, “half a century old”!! This milestone in our lives is either making our lives so exciting and busy that we don’t have time to write an update or so boring and we have nothing to report! I think I’ll go with the first reason. So, my first bit of news to report is that the Class of 1982 is busy rocking and rolling into the next half-century of their life, and they have no time to write me with any news. Although I will admit that Dewey Gaedcke and Bruce Phillips both tried to help with outdated contact information on missing classmates (who by the way are still missing) and Helena Papadopoulos Johnson wrote to let me know she won’t turn 50 until the end of the summer. I’m jealous!

So, I was going to write an entire column about me but y’all lucked out and after a bit of begging Martin Brock, Fay Monsen Kirby and Emily Wynne Bolin came through! Martin and his wife Kari are officially empty nesters with their youngest son Hunter (18) graduating high school this year. Their middle son Miller (21) has one semester left in college and the oldest Preston (23) graduated college in December. All three boys will be living in Denver, and Martin and Kari (who also just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary!) will be home with their chocolate labs enjoying this next phase of life!

Fay emailed to wish our class a happy 50th and reports that her second daughter Alix is graduating from the Santa Fe Prep Middle School this year. In September, Alix will join her big sister Elisebeth at Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut. Fay and husband Don will still have Spencer, their youngest, at home keeping them busy. Emily saw Elva Weatherford Riley over the Easter holidays as Elva came home to Houston to visit. They joined Susan Schwartz Cornett, Cathy Davis Bell and
