Three of Music’s Finest Beethoven Egmont Overture Mozart Clarinet Concerto – Soloist Victoria Soames-Samek Mendelssohn Symphony No.3 “Scottish” Beethoven’s Egmont Overture to this day stands as one of his most heroic and glorious works; a deeply political work emerging out of his republican frustration at Napoleon’s decision to declare himself Emperor. Next the sublime and delicate Clarinet Concerto, Mozart’s last completed instrumental work, giving a hint of what was lost at his premature death at the age of 35. Glorious, too, is the last of Mendelssohn’s symphonies, the Scottish. Inspired by a visit to the wild romantic Highlands, he completed the work many years afterwards.

JOE BROWN

16+

Spoiler Alert

SUN 11 FEB 7.30PM £33.50 / Concs £31

MON 5 FEB 8PM £25.50

Joe Brown MBE is unique, a genuine one off. With a history that spans music hall, skiffle, Rock n Roll, Theatre, Films, TV, Radio and even Circus (his Grandfather performed with Buffalo Bill), there aren’t many that can claim such an entertaining background. He is one of the very few to have successfully traversed the years and the genres and still be absolutely contemporary. A real survivor and a mega musical talent, the musician’s musician Joe Brown has seen it all and, as his fans can testify, his tales of life on the road are, quite simply, hilarious. He has stories and jokes and he knows how to tell ‘em.

I originally intended to call the show, “I’ll Millennial You in a Minute”, but my promoter considered the title, off-puttingly baffling. That’s my own chainsaw in the photo, by the way. Is life that bad or have we good reason to complain about it? Are we filled with righteous anger at a world gone wrong or are we all just a bunch of whiny little brats? In short, are we spoiled? Come and watch as Byrne takes this question, turns it upside down and shakes it until the funny falls out. Go on, spoil yourself.

About 20 albums and thousands of gigs later, they’ve earned a reputation around the world as one of the finest exponents of the blues tradition in all its forms.
