Polar Exposure:

The Women’s Euro-Arabian North Pole Expedition

Ruddigore finds Gilbert and Sullivan in an English Pastoral mood with some of Sullivan's most memorable and attractive music. The small Cornish village of Rederring is home to a chorus of professional bridesmaids hoping that pretty Rose Maybud will soon marry; a bad Baronet and his wronged younger brother; an ardent sailor, the deranged mad Margaret and the fearsome Dame Hannah. Not the least of their problems is a family portrait gallery which does not take kindly to its wishes being defied when it's descendant refuses to carry out the required "one crime a day" imposed by an ancient curse. Will it all turn out happily? What could possibly go wrong? Oh yeah, it's also very funny.

Facing extreme temperatures, a constantly shifting landscape and the threat from predatory polar bears, polar scientist turned explorer, Felicity Aston and a team of 10 novices from across Europe and the Middle East ski across the frozen Arctic Ocean to the North Pole. The expedition faced many physical challenges like temperatures down to -38°C and shifting pack ice, but the core purpose of the expedition was to foster greater dialogue and understanding between women from Western and Arabian cultures. In addition, the expedition inspired many women to reach beyond the expectation of others to fulfill their own ultimate life ambitions. Talk presented by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) in association with King’s Lynn Festival.

All the hot gamblers are in town, and they're all depending on Nathan Detroit to set up this week's incarnation of The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York; the only problem is, he needs $1000 to get the place. Throw in Sarah Brown, who's short on sinners at the mission she runs; Sky Masterson, who accepts Nathan's $1000 bet that he can't get Sarah Brown to go with him to Havana; Miss Adelaide, who wants Nathan to marry her, it’s a romantic whirl wind for some, and a bet for others. With songs including Luck Be a Lady and Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat, a classic show which all will love.
